“Two years is a long time to be with someone. Do you still love him?”

I’ve asked myself that question a million times and come up with the same answer. “No.” Any love I felt for Cole faded away the moment he told me he wanted to be with Charlotte.

I won’t deny the hurt from our breakup continued to gnaw away at my insides for months, like flesh-eating bacteria, but there came a point when I was able to let go.

Cole’s recent actions are only getting to me now because there was no need for him to hurt me.

“I stopped loving him long ago.” Those words outside my head sound as liberating as my decision to come here.

“That’s even better for me.” Aries continues drinking his wine, and the wild look in his eyes intensifies. “I wouldn’t like to get my hopes up if you’re thinking about someone else.”

“Trust me, I don’t have that problem.” I’m sure hardly anyone would if they had a choice between Mr. Handsome and whoever they were in a relationship with. I’m having a hard time remembering my own name in his presence, much less thinking of someone else—least of allCole.

“Perfect.” His eyes roam over me again, this time with a slow seduction that makes the ends of my nerves tingle with anticipation.

A surge of desire stirs in my core and I have to look away from his potent stare to save myself.

I focus on drinking my cocktail. It’s safer than being trapped in those eyes filled with sinful delight.

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who was so openly cocky and flirtatious. It’s intense, but what’s more worrying is that I like it a little too much.

And I like him a little too much too.

“I think I’ve maxed out my allotted questions asking about your ex. I hope I didn’t waste my chance to know more about you.” He sets his glass down and rests his palms on his knees.

Feeling grateful for the subtle shift in subject, I smile back at him and place my glass next to his. “You can ask me more questions if you want.”

He leans a little closer, brushing his knees against mine. “What’s your favorite color?”

“That’s what you want to know?” I straighten, giving him a measured stare.

“Sure. You can tell a lot about a person by knowing things like that.”

“Okay. It’s yellow. Sunset yellow. What more can you tell about me knowing that?”

Briefly, he bites the inside of his lip and considers me. “That you’re energetic and you like creating things. Am I right?”

His assumption makes me smile. I’m impressed because he’s right. “Yes. That sounds a lot like me.”

“So, Goddess of Love, what do you like creating?” Aries stares at me with deep fascination.

“I’m a writer. I like writing about every and anything.” That still rings true even though I’m finding it hard to be the person I used to be. I have high hopes that one day I can find that girl again.

“Is that what you do for a living?”

“Yes.” I’ll stop there. If I say anything more I’ll risk leaving breadcrumbs and giving more of myself away.

He places a finger to his temple. “Does that mean you’re out of college?”

That’s a clever way to ask how old I am. “Yes. Two years now. I’m twenty-four.”

He gives me a cunning smile, realizing I saw straight through his question.

“And you?” I quickly add, deciding to throw the spotlight on him. I’ve answered a ton of questions but I don’t know anything about him other than he might be some kind of celeb.

“Thirty-one, and I guess it’s my turn to answer questions now.”

I nod. “It sure is,Aries. I’m sure I’ve answered at least twenty questions by now.”
