Daughter?

What the hell?

No. No motherfucking way.

His daughter?

She’s Shawn Jakobe’s daughter?

I want to ask him to repeat himself so I can check that I heard him right, but I decide against it when he slips an arm around my Venus and she gazes up at him lovingly. The way a daughter would. The look masks her own shock thatheknows me.

I thought Jakobe only had one daughter—Charlotte, the stuck-up bitch with a stick shoved up her ass. To be fair, though, I haven’t really given much thought to his family, or cared enough to think he could have more children. I saw the wife, Charlotte and that brown-nosing boyfriend, Cole, and believed that was it.

Cole—God, so he’s the asshole ex who left Autumn for her sister.

Jesus.

“Yes.” I speak to stop the awkward silence from working its way between us. “We… have met.” I try to say that without thinking too much about how his baby girl felt beneath me as I pounded into her.

“Good.” Jakobe gives me a stiff smile. “Autumn will be working with my wife’s PR firm to do the interviews and articles with the players.”

Autumn… that’s her name. Pretty name for a pretty face.

I barely register everything else he says, as I piece together the wordsinterview, article, players.

I remember her telling me about her love for writing. She also confirmed that as her career.

“That’s great.” I dip my head respectfully, keeping up the façade that we just met.

“Autumn, Luc is one of the best players on my team.” Jakobe gives Autumn that tight-lipped smile.

He’s fake as fuck but I’m amazed he’s talking about me with such high regard. It’s probably part of the act to lick my ass.

“That’s amazing,” Autumn states, speaking for the first time since her father walked up to us.

She knows I’m a hockey player now. I wonder what she thinks of that. Was I right that she’s not the kind of girl to go after guys like me?

Does it even matter now?

“How about we see you later?” Jakobe straightens. “I need to borrow Autumn now.”

“Sure.” I nod, looking from him to her.

“See you,” Autumn mumbles.

“You, too.”

Jakobe ushers her away but I stare after her.

Before they go through the door she looks back at me, her eyes searching mine, reaching out to me to take her.Claim her.Own her the way I did in Vegas.

Or maybe I’m just seeing what I want to see.

They disappear through the door and I can’t see her anymore.

This was no stroke of luck at all. This was the motherfucking universe screwing with me again. It has to be.

What are the chances of this happening?
