I want to say that I hope to be myself again by the time I get back to L.A. but I hold back. We’ve talked about L.A. several times but this is the first time I feel weird mentioning it. Maybe because of what Zoe said, and I realize that L.A. is a place where Luc won’t be.
“How about your father? Are things okay with him?” I don’t miss the tick in his jaw.
“He was nice to me today. The magazine came back and he liked it.”
“That’s good.”
“Yeah. I just wish he didn’t have this vendetta against you.”
In typical Luc Le Blanche style he smiles as if I said something funny. “Can’t do much about that. The only thing I hate about our plan is you dating Evan.”
“I’m not dating him.” I purse my lips but I know how he must feel. I’d hate it if he had to use another woman as a diversion. I’d be jealous as hell.
“I know you’re not dating him. I just want you for myself.”
“This is how I get to see you.”
“I know.”
The whole idea of Evan only works because that asshole wants to get in my father’s good graces. I’m hoping that meansI can stretch things out with him as long as possible without physical contact.
“If he touches you I’m cutting off his dick.”
I laugh. “Luc, you are so crazy.”
“You think I’m joking? I’m not.” A frown knits his brows. “It kills me that I have to meet you like this. You’re the kind of woman you don’t hide away in the dark. I want to show you off to the world and let everyone know that you belong to me. But I’ll take this if I get to see you. Even if I have to watch him be with you in the light.”
I’m so stunned by his words that my mind struggles to think. I can’t believe he’d want everyone to know he’s with me.
“You’re the only one I want to be with.”
Luc smiles and the tension fades from his expression. “Then everything is worth it just to hear you say that.”
“I mean it.”
He reaches for a strawberry in the bowl and holds it out for me to take. I do, and he watches me eat it. “Eat, then we can play.”
The smile he gives me heats me up from the inside out. We finish off the food, then we retreat to the sofa area with the wine to drink and talk.
My mind is buzzing from him and the wine, taking me to that place where I feel free of my worries and all there is in my world is us.
I’m talking to him about another story idea I’ve been toying with when he pulls me onto his lap and nibbles on my neck.
“You’re going to have to tell me all of that again in the morning.” His breath tickles my skin.
“You didn’t hear a word I said?”
“No. I kept remembering you riding my face.”
He cups the underside of my breast and flicks his finger over the tight peak of my nipple.
“Then I remembered sucking these while you spoke to your dad on the phone.”
That was last week after the team finished training. We parked in an alley behind the grocery store.
He tweaks my breast and leans down to brush his mouth over my nipples through the fabric of my dress.
“I want you to ride me right here, Venus.” His eyes brim with heat and that wild malice again.
