My lips part in surprise. “Really? The whole thing?”

He spreads his arms out wide. “The whole thing, baby.”

That must have cost a fortune. Over the last few weeks I’ve gotten even more glimpses into his wealth. This is another to add to the list.

“Thank you. I love it.”

“Come on. Let’s go eat.”

We go inside and sit at the table. The first thing I notice is that the gorgeous bottle of wine in the center is the same as the one we drank in Vegas the night we met. Then Luc lifts the dome cover off the food, revealing a delicious spread of grilled chicken and sautéed vegetables.

I bring my hands to my cheeks. “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you did all this.”

“I wanted us to have a real date. This was the closest I could get.”

“Everything looks amazing. This was such a great idea. All of it.”

He nods, agreeing, and we tuck into the food.

“How was today?” he asks.

I smile because it’s so refreshing to be able to talk to someone about my day other than Zoe.

“It was better.”

“Does that include your therapy session?” There’s a cautious edge to his tone. I’ve told him about my sessions and he knows what’s going on with me, but I can tell he doesn’t want to seem like he’s prying.

“Yes, that was better. Although all I did was say more words when I gave her answers.” I laugh, and he does, too.

“Some people are just like that. What about you? How are you feeling in general?”

“I’m good. Better than I have been in a long time, thanks to you.”

“I can’t take credit for that.”

“You know you can. Especially because I’m writing again and enjoying working on the article about the manor. I can't begin to tell you how much it's meant to me to do it. I haven't been able to write like this in a long time.”

“That makes me happy. Glad you found some use in my family’s history.”

“It’s been amazing. I still can’t believe the manor is yours. And you’re really going to sell it.”

He steeples his fingers. “You like the place, don’t you?”

“Of course. It’s been like hanging out in a story book.” The nights we’ve spent there have been a dream, but spending the time in the house to do my research has added a homey vibe to the place that I love.

He chuckles. “I know what you mean.”

“It’s a beautiful house, Luc. I can see why your family loved it so much. All the journals talk about it.”

“I haven’t read the journals, but people were obsessed with it. While my grandmother was alive there was a party every week. I had a lot of fun growing up there with my cousins.”

“I can just imagine. I’ll be sending over the preliminary notes that I have so far to my boss tomorrow. He’s already excited about the summary plan I sent.” Harvey absolutely loved it. That gave me a boost to keep going.

“I’m sure he’s going to love whatever you come up with. I know I will.”

“I hope so.”

“You’ll be fine.”
