“I know this year hasn’t been easy, Nico, but I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else. It’s been the best one yet because of you. I’m honored to do life by your side, as your wife. I couldn’t have done this without you.”

Opening up has come easier to her. Vulnerability wasn’t her strength when we first met.

“You can do anything, amore. But it’s my honor to be here anyway. As youronlyhusband,” I repeat for good measure—in case it didn’t stick the first time before kissing her. I pull away. “They say the first year of marriage is the hardest.”

“Well, then, smooth sailing from here,” she giggles and it’s like music to my ears.

Anya toppled over from laughter when I told her I used the disappearing ink to sign those bogus annulment papers. It stays visible for three days before fading.

Caishen was none the wiser, and since our marriage was never annulled, the marriage license between Xander and her wasn’t valid. Not that it mattered. I’m pretty sure it ended up in the Atlantic before it was ever filed.

“I have another surprise for you,” I tell her as I set my glass down on the edge next to her and reach into my pocket to grab my phone.

“Wait, me first!” Anya exclaims, waving Lil over.

“I thought my present was this morning, when you took my—”

She places her pointer finger against my lips, and I nip at it with my teeth.

Liling appears and hands over a large white envelope with an oversized bow on it to my wife, who then passes it on to me. She stares up at me expectantly as I open it. I spot the watermark logo first and scan the contents, and my eyebrows shoot up as I read what it all means.

“New Dominion Freights?” I look up at her questioningly. She only responds with a smug grin, and I pull her into me before crashing my lips onto hers.

My wife purchased New Dominion Freights, one of the top global transport and logistics corporations in the world, but they trade by air instead of shipping containers.

Omni-Trade mainly uses sea freights. While we have air freight options, they haven’t been a priority and nothing like New Dominion. I mentioned to her some months ago that I wanted to expand our airfreights to make us more profitable, but we’d have to weed out the competition. This is going to be a game changer—this will triple our net worth.

“How did you do this?” I ask my wife, still in shock.

“It wasn’t hard. Papa mentioned that Carter Banks is about to turn ninety, and none of his children or grandchildren are equipped to uphold the legacy. His kids were upset at first, but when they saw the payout, they quickly shut up.”

Of course Cesare saw this coming. The nosy bastard’s work continues to pay off.

“That’s what you were doing in Chicago.”

“Among other things, yes. Nico Delucci, you are now the majority shareholder and owner of New Dominion Freights.”

I pull her to me, crushing our lips together so hard they’d bruise.

“I can’t wait to thank you properly later. Now it’s my turn.” Anya sits up straighter excitedly.

I barely get the envelope from my front pocket when she snatches it out of my hand. She opens it eagerly, catching the gold key before it falls to the ground and reads the contents.

“What does this mean?” She looks up at me, wide-eyed.

“It means it’s ours.”

The Castle, the safe house in Virginia, was owned under a shell corporation. It’s where my wife and I fell in love. Anya loves that house. Since the events last year took place and the location is no longer a secret, there’s no point in keeping it that way. I had the deed transferred under my wife’s name.

“We can renovate it to our liking, add that pool you wanted. Demolish the cabins or not. Visit whenever we need a quiet getaway. Whatever we want.”

“I love it, Nico. Thank you.” She wraps her arms around me tighter.

“You never have to thank me, baby,” I tell her before giving her another kiss.

Grayson appears at the back door entrance, with Dante and Xander Goh beside him. They got intel that his kidnapped turned runaway fiancée was spotted in Canada.

I can’t help but feel bad for the man. Anya was mortified when I told her what Caishen did to her. The few days Anya was gone was shit—I couldn’t imagine my own father selling her, for her to then disappear.
