She smirks. “Well, if it isn’t my second—”

“Finish that sentence, and you won’t be able to sit for a week,” I command, knowing exactly where she’s going with that remark.

“Don’t threaten me with a good time, husband.”

My wife straightens as the men approach.

“Anya.” Xander bows.

“Xander.” She returns the gesture.

“You look well. If we weren’t both spoken for, I’d say we would’ve made quite a pair.” The bastard smirks at me.

At my growl, Anya chuckles because she finds satisfaction in my turmoil.

Grayson greets his sister with a kiss before shaking my hand before making a beeline for Liling.

“How’s life as the head of the 14K?” she asks.

“It’s not without issues, but we’ll be just fine.”

“Yeah, too bad about that boating accident,” I add, chuckling, referring to the news article that went out about Caishen’s death.

There were references of his love of the water and sea and a quote from Xander saying, “at least he died doing what he loved,” which is ironic.

“Food table.” Dante points before patting me on the back and speeding off.

“Seriously?” Anya calls after him.

“When you’re on the road, the food is shit,” he yells over his shoulder.

“You stay at five-star hotels. I highly doubt that,” Anya mutters.

“How’s the hunt coming along?” I ask.

“We’re close. We just missed her this last time. Or I think. I’ve got some men I trust holding the fort down overseas. I’m gonna stay in the states in case we get word she crosses the border,” Xander replies grimly.

“I have no doubt Dante will find her,” Anya reassures him before looking at me. “I’m going to check in with the girls.”

ANYA

I make my way over across the lawn to my sister, Maya, Liling, and Pria, who the girls have easily taken under their wings.

Pria Singha is a Thai-Briton that was studying for her masters at Oxford and was working late when random men picked her up off of the street. Her father owed some gambling debts to Caishen and was killed along with her mother that same night. I offered my full support to her if she wanted to finish her education and get back to her life, but she had no interest in returning and is choosing to stay in the states.

Maya offered Pria her spare bedroom, and it worked out perfectly since she didn’t want to live alone. She didn’t want to accept any charity but was aware she had few options, so I insisted on giving her a paid summer internship, working alongside Lili. She’s also started therapy and is starting to come out of her shell.

Smiling at a laughing Tao and Sky with their little Dot as I pass, I spot Donna who already has a drink waiting for me by the time I get to them.

Liling shoots me a smile.

“What are you ladies talking about?” I ask, taking a seat.

“Pria was just updating us on her class schedule,” Lili responds.

“That’s right. Are you excited for the fall semester?” I ask her.

I was able to pull some strings and get her late admission into Columbia. It wasn’t too hard with her Oxford education.
