“Now you’re just blowing smoke up my ass.”

Bo throws his head back and chuckles.

“I can’t believe, out of all the people who ended him, it was Andrew.”

“Peter was still human.” Bo pauses, looking deep in thought. “But I don’t know if that’s true. I think Andrew told you it was him to get under your skin.”

A shadowy figure moves behind Bo, and our guns are pulled out in half a second. Nico appears with one hand raised. He chuckles as he struts inside.

“What are you doing here? I thought we were meeting for lunch.” Tilting my head to give him a kiss, I tuck my weapon back in place.

His perfectly tailored suit tells me he was in an important meeting. Nico usually sports joggers and T-shirts that look like they were made just for him. Nico in a suit, though—there were no words.

“I saw your location and thought I’d stop by.” He shrugs as if it’s the most normal thing in the world. “What is all this?” He looks around.

“Just some stuff my parents left me. Bo was able to keep them safe.”

Nico eyes the bear in my hand. He spots the bassinet and smiles warmly, wiggling his eyebrows and earning a giggle from me.

“I’m gonna make some calls to get all of this home with us,” Bo says, pulling his phone out.

“Cute bear,” Nico says.

“I thought so, too.” I smile at him before noticing blood showing through his T-shirt. “Why are you bleeding?”

He looks down. “Shit. I need to rewrap it.”

“That’s not an answer, Nico.”

“I had lunch with your papa. It’s no big deal.”

“He did that?” I scream, moving my hand to the wound. “Let me see! You should be in a sling.”

“It’s fine. Went right through. It’ll heal. This is a minor price to pay.”

Something in the bassinet catches his eye, and he pulls it out. A soft blanket. My lips turn up. The corner has Chinese characters embroidered.

“What’s this mean?” Nico asks, inspecting it.

He’s been relearning Mandarin.

I smile as my fingers trace the pattern before looking up at him. “Xiao lóng. It means ‘little dragon.’”

Chapter Four

ANYA

"No mercy, xiao lóng,”Bo tells me as the SUV strolls up the winding driveway, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Yeah, make them your bitch!” Kai jokes from the driver’s seat.

“I’d like to see you say that to Uncle Ethan’s face.” Tao chuckles, snacking on his usual chips.

The guy could eat, you’d think I never paid him.

“Those’ll kill you, man.” Kai pauses as he glances over. “Gimme some.” He reaches over at a scowling Tao.

He does not like to share his food, and Kai couldn’t care less.
