“Where were you?” I ask through tight lips.

Damien immediately makes a beeline for the stairs. Avraam is frozen by the door, a guilty look on his face. It’s even more obvious now what they’ve been up to, but at least they’re not dead or in jail. I can be thankful for that but still angry that he didn’t tell me what he was doing.

“Maybe we should talk in the lounge,” Avraam says without moving.

“Or right here.”

“There’s a lot to say,” he replies, nodding toward the doorway. “Let’s go.”

I wait for him to move, and then I follow him. The only thing I really want to do is hold him and have him kiss me deeply, but I don’t want him to think that what he did was okay. I need him to know that I’m upset.

Avraam sits down on the green couch in the lounge, leaning back like he’s trying to look relaxed. I can see from the tension in his shoulders and the scowl on his face that he’s not, but he wants me to believe he is.

I almost want to laugh at his act, but that would break the seriousness of my demeanor and make him think everything is fine between us.

It’s not.

“What happened?” I ask, crossing my arms and staring Avraam down.

“We killed Leo,” he replies bluntly.

I wasn’t expecting such a direct answer, and I nearly stumble back when he says it. My heart slams in my chest, and my mouth drops open. I knew they were planning to kill Leo, but I didn’t think it would happen so suddenly. There were no signs that they were ready, no evidence that they were about to do this.

But maybe that was the point, to catch him off-guard and strike when nobody expected it.

Now, I don’t know whether to be impressed or angry. Maybe both.

“I honestly don’t know what to say,” I whisper, more to myself than to him.

“You don’t have to say anything, my darling. We did what needed to be done, and I didn’t want to put unnecessary stress on you by talking about it. Can you imagine how much anxiety you would’ve had today if you knew what we left the house to do?”

He’s right, but I don’t want to admit it. I want him to believe that I’m stronger than that, but the truth is that I would’ve begged him to stay and puked my guts out from worry the entire time he was gone.

He did me a favor, even if it wasn’t what I wanted.

“I hope the police aren’t going to show up at the house after this,” I say, unwilling to let this go yet.

“No evidence. We made a clean getaway. I can tell you about it if you’ll uncross your arms and sit down with me.” He pats his lap. “Right here, darling.”

I squint my eyes at him, but after a moment I feel drawn toward his lap. I sit down, feeling the warmth and strength beneath me, and I feel better already. He has a way of making even my worst fears evaporate when I’m close to him.

He lifts his hand, stroking my hair lightly and smiling. “You’re so beautiful. Did you do something different with your hair?”

I shrug. “Just a new shampoo,” I reply, though I’m glad he noticed. Most guys wouldn’t.

“Mm, that’s what it is.” He closes his eyes and inhales deeply. “Smells like heaven.”

My cheeks glow from his praise. I’m a sucker for it and he knows that, but I allow him to play his little games with me. I live for the way he makes me feel.

He touches my leg, adjusting me on his lap so that I can feel his erection. “You know, once Damien leaves we could probably have a little fun.”

“Always thinking about sex,” I tease, but I’m just as guilty. I think I’m a bit of an addict at this point, but it’s better to have a man who is obsessed with you and will entertain your addiction than someone who doesn’t care.

I just want to be fucked… all the time.

“We’ll see how I feel once you tell me what you were up to today,” I say, grinding against his erection. “I love the sound of your voice. It really turns me on.”

He chuckles. “Well, that’s one way to get me talking.”
