He sent a picture a few weeks back along with an update. After bringing it up on the screen, I hand the phone to Havoc. It feels foreign to be opening up to them about this. I have had to keep it hidden for so long.

“Ho-ly fuckening.”

“What?” Laney asks.

“Fuckening?” Arrow asks simultaneously.

I stare at Havoc, nervous to hear what he knows. He leans back and throws his arm around Arrow.

“Yeah, fuckening. As in the whole of reality was actually a lie, and this is so much fucking bigger than we thought.”

Our mouths all drop open as he continues, my heart jack hammering in my chest. This is not going to be good.

“This woman was sleeping with Adrik. Had been on and off for about ten straight years.”

What a cunt!I knew there was a connection I was missing, but I didn’t realise it was that. My contact and I were aware Valentina had a lover of some kind, but we were oblivious as to who. This is most definitely not good.

Understatement of the century you absolute fucking twat.Arrow looks at the screen and cringes.

“Do you think that’s what she meant by being after us because we killed someone she loved?”

Havoc shrugs. “Probably.”

Laney takes a look then hands the phone back to me.

“Alright, well now we know. How are we going to take her down before she gets to us?”

I clear my throat and sit back, firing a text to my contact. He gets back to me immediately.

K: I’ve found the boy. Do you think this will hurt our plans?

X: If he can get on board with our plan, this could actually be perfect.

I look up at the throuple sitting across from me, all clinging to each other with the love and acceptance I once knew. Part of me doesn’t want to involve them, but as a therapist I know better. If they want to be part of this, that’s their choice to make.

“I think I can help with that.”

Chapter 22

After Dr. K filled us in on her plan, I took everyone to talk to E. I was pissed Dr. K said she didn’t want anyone else involved. That this was our fight, not E’s. When E agreed with her, I stormed out of there like a pissed off toddler.

Now, I’m driving our heavily protected Range Rover back to the house in a very sour mood.

“Earth to the god of chaos, what’s going on?”

I huff in response. I didn’t like the feeling of being vulnerable in those tunnels. It was awful knowing the people I loved were at risk too. While the wound on my leg has mostly healed, I canremember how the fear hit me when I didn’t think we were going to make it.

Laney slides her hand over my thigh, and I finally look at her instead of the road. Arrow sits in the back on his computer, looking into some of the people Dr. K told us about, to see if we can find a connection.

“Talk to me,” she whispers into my neck. She’s nearly pressed up against me. I adjust the seat to make room for her and pull her into my lap. With her heat close the fear subsides a little.

“I don’t want to put the two of you in any more danger.”

Her lips meet the flesh on my neck, and I inhale deeply. She knows just how to make me chill the fuck out. Keeping one hand on the wheel, I use the other to pull her close as she grinds down onto my already painfully hard erection, my buddy Steel coming to life anytime she’s close.

It’s the middle of the night and hardly anyone’s on the road, so I let my hand go slack on the wheel, sinking into the feelings only my girl can bring.

A larger, rougher set of hands reaches around the seat and tears open my shirt. Laney immediately trails kisses down my chest as Arrow leans around the headrest to nibble on my ear.
