“Damn, you’re even more gorgeous than the pictures.”

Oh my heavens, he’s trying to flirt with her. He’s legit staring down the barrel of my gun and has the balls to flirt with my girl.

“You’ve seen pictures of me?” she asks bashfully. I know she’s just playing into our hand, but I want to claw his eyes out for the way he undresses her with his eyes. Only Arrow and I can do that.

Laney bends down next to him. “Were you planning to kill me?” she pouts.

Honest to goodness pouts, sticking her bottom lip out and everything. The man shakes his head.

“No. I was going to take you with me.”

“Hmm.” She looks him over, her eyes roaming up and down as if she were checking him out. I have to count to ten in my head to stop myself from shooting him and splattering her with his blood for playing this game.

“Where were you going to take me, big guy?”

Laney strokes two fingers down his cheek, and he smiles at the touch.

“I just had to get you away from these bastards. I was told you would be my prize.”

She giggles and my rage begins to build into a migraine.

“I was going to be your prize?” She touches her chest as if she can’t believe this news. It’s insane just how good she is at being a beautiful temptress. He nods as she leans in to whisper.

“Who told you this?”

“Roberto Andreev.”

The man closes his eyes as he inches closer, inhaling her scent. I aim the gun ready to flip the fuck out on this guy. Yet, before I can make my move, she shoots him right in the chest. A shocked gasp comes from his lips, and Laney smiles as his head falls back then immediatly averts her gaze.

“Thank you for telling me this.”

Laney stands, dusts off her knees without looking down at the man, and tosses me the gun.

“So much less drama my way.”

I didn’t even see her raise the gun to his chest, so I would be a fool to say she’s an amateur. I just don’t want her going back to that dark place again with everything she’s been through. We have fought so hard to stay together and heal.

We head back to the car where Arrow sits with the back seat flattened and his rifle poking out the rear window.

“There are more cars coming. We need to move.”

I turn on the engine but keep the lights off. We are only a few miles from our property out here, and only our cars can get past the perimeter without getting blown up, so I take us in the direction of home.

“Let’s get cleaned up, then we can talk to Dr. K about the name he gave us.”

“No need,” Laney says, holding up her phone. “This is one of Valentina’s men. He lives here in Russia and runs a business down the street from Evie’s office.”

She scrolls through her phone for a minute before pulling up a document.

“He also RSVP’d to be there on opening night of Damien’s new sex club, Kray.”

How could I forget about the club we are all opening up next week? Before all of this happened, I’d been working with Damien on vendor invitations and getting the building to code. Kray is Russian for ‘The Edge’, which actually clicks when I think about Damien.

Laney was working on setting up kink-themed rooms, a guest list with special members getting access to the VIP rooms, and hiring the staff. Arrow was helping Alexi with the torture chamber being installed in the basement for when we need to deal with our enemies.

That’s when it hits me. Laney already has this idea forming in her head, and I have no doubt it includes her putting herself in a vulnerable position again.

“Don’t even think about it, my unicorn. We have ladies we’ve already hired to do these jobs.”
