“I know.” He sits his bag down and takes a seat on the couch. “She told me.”

“Oh.”

“She asked if you threw up last night. I told her the truth.”

“Did you tell her about before?”

“No. One backslide isn’t bad, and I realize part of it could’ve been the conversation we were having, which we still need to finish, but it can wait.”

I sit down beside him, and he puts his arm around my shoulder, pulling me against him.

“I’m trying to be better.” I say softly. “I’m having nuggets and fries tonight.”

“Yeah?” He smiles. “I’m proud of you.”

“What did you get?”

“A quarter pounder with cheese and a large fry.”

He seems a little off, and I don’t know if I should be concerned. His arm is around me, but he feels miles away. Maybe it’s just in my head.

We sit in silence for a few minutes before I can’t fight the nagging feeling something is wrong.

“Are you okay?” I ask.

“Yeah.” He nods. “I think I have a bit of a contact high from Nicolas.” He smiles at me. “But I’m good. Just relaxed.” He squeezes my shoulder. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah.” I nod. “You just seem a bit off.”

“Just high.” He scoots down on the couch a little, pulling me so I’m leaning against his chest. “I’ll be better after I eat. I promise. How could I be anything other than good when I have you by my side?”

“I don’t know if I’m that good compared to you.”

“Oh, you are fantastic.” He laughs. “You feel really good in my arms.” I hear the door to the bus open, and I sit up. He sighsin disappointment, but he sits back up, too. “Movie?” He asks as Sue comes in with food.

“Sure.” I say. He gets up, grabs Sue's sodas, and sets them on the table.

“Thank you.”

“Thank you for getting us food. Which one is mine?” Wes questions.

“Two are diet, the other is regular.”

Wes grabs a diet and the regular and hands me the diet.

“Thanks.” I take a sip and set it on the food.

Sue passes out the food as Wes looks for a movie for us to watch.

“Anything in particular you want to watch?” He asks before taking a bite of a fry.

“Something funny?”

“You got it.”

He puts on Pineapple Express.

I painstakingly eat all ten of my nuggets and my whole thing of fries. It takes me longer to eat than Wes, but he doesn’t say anything. He just rests his arm behind my shoulders. Sue eats a salad but doesn’t watch me like she normally does.
