This was for my baby. Our family. Our future.

His hands dropped from my face and he set an arm along my shoulders, steering me down the main corridor, closer to the stairwell.

“We kept this last one away, just in case you killed them all in one fell swoop.” He opened the door to a cell on our left and I stepped in first, staring at the malefic that was huddled in the corner, shaking, not even chained down he was so little a threat to me.

Damen stopped by the doorway and I took two steps into the room, facing the quivering malefic. Something that would normally spike pity in me, and just when it was about to, my mouth opened. “What did he do?”

“This was the coward that sent a blade through Lizzy’s heart. He?—”

I shook my head, silencing him. All I needed.

My feet were slow, stalking across the room. I wanted this putrescent heap of shit pissing on his thigh when I descended on him.

He did. The stench soaking his ripped pants and sending a putrescent stench into the chamber. I didn’t even have to get close to him.

Disgusted, I let my right hand dangle down by my side, casual, but I lifted my pinky toward him. With Damen not but five feet behind me, this was damn well going to be controlled if it was the last thing I did. The fucking pinky trick seemed like the least chaos coming out of my body.

I stared at the lump of the shaking malefic, the anger spinning in a whirlwind within me.

Lizzy had been eighteen. Still a child in our world.

The red energy surged in a rush out of my pinky, threatening to spread to my whole hand. I held back, focusing with all my might on the surge of energy hitting its target. I didn’t even care how this one died, just that he did.

In a blip, his body detonated, much like the first one, and then sucked back in on itself, vanishing.

Moving no other muscle, I slowly lowered my pinky, my other fingers twitching with residual energy.

I stood stock still in the silence.

My ears strained, listening for breath behind me.

Silence.

Until there.

A long exhale.

Arms wrapping around me.

A deep rumble whispering in my ear. “My fucking supernova.”

Chapter33

{ Damen }

Ada spun in my arms, collapsing into me, her hands onto my chest, gripping at my shirt as she looked up at me.

Her eyes glossy, unfocused, with something dark spiking through the undertones of the green of her irises. Something I’d never seen before.

Her lips parted, a painful whisper puffing out. “There’s too much in me.”

For one soul-crushing second, I thought I’d lost her.

Thought I pushed her so far she couldn’t be pulled back.

But then I saw it in her, in the energy radiating off of her. The pain that still swirled in her body. She could manifest death—but she couldn’t quite control how much death she conjured at a time. And that extra energy turned into torture for her.

Good thing she had me for that.
