A challenge had started it all, from the beginning to the end because after four months in which I no longer saw Salvatore's face, I knew that I would never be able to forget him because something about him had completely bewitched me.

Even if I had been the one who had him defeated from the first second, I very well knew that he also had me at his feet admiring him, not like I was before, I always knew that he could be another type of leader and here he is, being the best.

Not only is he Salvatore Marino, he is the Don of the 'Ndrangheta, my diavolo, my future husband and key member of an entire empire that will soon pass to an heir.

I was never going to forget Salvatore Marino.

I was never going to forget his caresses.

I was never going to forget his kisses.

I was never going to forget his visionary mind.

I was never going to forget the kind heart he has for everyone he cares for and loves.

I was never going to forget the challenge where it all began.

CHAPTER 29

THE UNION OF TWO DEMONS

???????????????

Emily

Just as we had planned, a month had passed in which I dove deep into finding somewhere nice for our wedding. I should have thought that the place was already destined for us for a long time and I am talking about the beach house in Calabria that has beautiful views, in Capo Vaticano we have everything we need to have a good time with Salvatore's partners, his colleagues and we also invited Alessio.

I didn't want to spend thousands of hours a day doing fittings for this and that, however, Ginevra insisted on a dress fitting, which is a long, fairly fresh chiffon skirt that has a large opening in front allowing my legs to come out every time I walk. A heart-shaped corset with silk pleats and a couple of pearls scattered across the fabric. All the white color highlights the tone of my skin, I am stunned seeing the beautiful tone my face took on after so much time resting and eating well.

The makeup is light, with the beach thing being present, I didn't want it all to run down my face and end up like a poorly done work by some Italian painter.

-How I look?

"You look great, Emily," he gets excited as he looks at me. In short, our two hundred guests will be more than happy to see a great woman dressed in white and on top of that she is the lady of the clan in Calabria.

—We had said one hundred and fifty Gin.

—Well, one plus one less, it's not a bad thing.

I stop insisting because it is already the day and I have no more time to make adjustments to the lists, although I am very aware that most of the people are acquaintances of Salvatore and I will finally see their faces. When I move my feet outside the room it feels good because I chose white platforms with bows that extend down my legs until they reach four fingers below the knee.

It was more than clear that I was not going to get into the sand with heels that would have a sharp heel of more than twenty centimeters, no sir, in those things I die and instead of a wedding there is a wake, no thanks.

I walk holding the hand of Ginevra who accompanies me at all times, Salvatore is in another truck so I get into mine letting my lady approach me along with Nadia.

—Red looks good on you, Nadia.

—Thank you, miss, but I have to admit that the uniform suits me better, it's more comfortable.

—I think so, my sneakers are in my bag, I'm not going to last more than two hours in these things.

The three of us burst out laughing and opened the champagne that overflowed when Ginevra blew out the cork. We pour ourselves a couple of drinks while we talk about things about the wedding such as the guests, the music, the cake and many other things that we already want to get to.

My truck stops for a moment and Guillermo opens the door indicating that he wants me to get out, but Ginevra is the one who covers my eyes, making a cup with her hand so as not to ruin my eye makeup. I go down with doubts, I listen to an extensive silence that at the same time is reassuring because I can even hear the little birds or how the domes of the trees move.

"You must keep in mind that the groom cannot see the bride because many years ago marriages took place out of convenience," he explains to me. I hold on tightly to Guillermo's suit as he extends an arm to me so as not to fall. This was because it prevented the groom from regretting it and canceling the celebration, but you love each other and he needs you to see this.

-See what?
