“To Rose Cottage?” They’d hardly spent any time there, but she loved it. It was their place. Her apartment belonged in another life to another person. She had no regrets.

“To Rose Cottage,” he confirmed. “We don’t know what kind of network they have. It’s safer if we’re not in the city. If Charles is hurt, they’ll have to hole up somewhere until he heals. If he’s dead, or she abandons him, that changes things.”

She ran her fingers through his hair and considered what she’d learned about her captors. “I don’t think she’ll abandon him. She could have left him at the warehouse but got him out.” Whatever their relationship was, they were committed to each other.

He grunted. “Maybe she cares. Maybe she needs his money and manpower. There’s also no way of knowing what kind of magical backlash Solange is facing after her spell blew up in her face.”

“Is it small of me to hope she’s hurting?”

He rubbed his nose against hers and rolled up to sit on the side of the bed. “No. I wish they’d both died in the explosion. Would’ve saved us a lot of trouble.”

She sat up and pressed herself against his back. “They’re obsessed with the immortality of the lone wolf.”

“They’ll view this as a setback, but they’ve spent over a hundred years working toward this goal. They won’t stop until either we’re dead or they are.” When she shivered, he pulled her around and onto his lap. “Now that we have their names, I can dig in and find any property they have here in the city. I’ll reach out to the alphas. Someone has to know them, possibly done business with them. The more we learn the better chance we have of flushing them out.”

“What about the other lone wolves? They’re a part of this. And there may be women out there, like me, who carry a drop of their blood. Solange wouldn’t have stopped with me, would she?” Her heart went out to those innocent women, living their normal lives with no idea what was in store for them.

“No, there are three of us. She has three chances to get it right. If we’re lucky, we’ll be written off as a failed experiment. It doesn’t mean we’re safe, just that we’re no longer the main targets.”

She prayed he was right. Then felt guilty for being relieved. “We have to help them.” She rubbed her cheek against his chest, soothed by the steady beat of his heart.

“We’ll contact Kade and Dagen. Whether they believe what we tell them is up to them, but they’re in the direct line of fire. Solange and Charles have tipped their hand. They’ve been the hunters up to this point. Now they’ll become the prey.”

An icy shiver swept down her spine. No, this wasn’t over. Not by a long shot, but she believed he was right, that they’d move on to their next victim.

Devlin brushed his fingers over the lock of her white hair. “You’re my mate, my love, my life.”

“And you’re mine.”

Whatever the future held, in his arms, she’d found her home.
