My mouth had turned into cotton wool. I pushed my hair to the side and saw that someone had left painkillers and a glass of water on the van’s kitchen bench.

Thoughtful of Mum.

I looked back down at the black tee I wore. AC/DC on the front. The same band tee shirt Jet had worn to speed dating.

Jet Cummings: that’s right, plural!

Who had agreed to have sex with me.

I whipped up the shirt. My strapless bra was gone, but I was still wearing my black lace briefs I’d worn to speed dating. I tensed my core muscles. Definitely didnotfeel like I’d seen any action last night.

Someone started humming a song outside at the back of the van. A very masculine-sounding someone.

I swallowed the pills and the whole glass of water, and then peeked out the rear window. Jet was shirtless and lying on the ground with some spanners at his side, swearing at my muffler.

Okay, this was most unexpected.I pulled back from the window. I’d gone to the pub looking to hook-up, and the Kombi had ended up with more lube than I did.

MyKombi van. Still wasn’t used to the fact that I now owned a vintage campervan. Shit, I wasn’t even used to the idea that Ash—‘here for a good time, not a long time’—Wilde was happilyin love, that Mum was now acting as the official matchmaker of Ballydoon, and I was doing a road trip of the whole of Australia.

Did you need lube for a muffler? Why is Jet touching my Kombi van? In fact, why was he still here?I gritted my teeth, shuffled off the bed, slid the heavy sliding door across with a bang and whimpered at the bright light. I looked around, finding my sunnies on top of my make-up kit, and put them on as I charged outside.

“What do you think you’re doing?” I screamed and immediately winced as my voice clanged in my skull.Come on, drugs, do your thing!

Jet put down a spanner and sat up slowly, looking me up and down. “Well, good morning.”

Fuck, I ran out here in nothing but my panties and his shirt! From his seated position on the ground, his eyes were level with my underwear. I pulled the hem of his tee shirt down a little.

“How’s your head?” he asked, his voice low and deep.

“Like Thor is taking his hammer to my skull.”

“You find the painkillers and water?”

“I did. You left those out for me?”

He nodded.

“Thank you,” I said in a small voice.

“No problem.” Jet smiled. “Thought you might need them after last night.”

Panic pulsed through me. I’d just taken pills from a stranger. That I picked up in a bar. That I had kinda blacked out on. I was the biggest idiot on this planet. No, this galaxy! All of the galaxies!

“You okay?” Jet got to his feet, his brow furrowed with concern. “You look like you’re going to puke.”

“What are you doing?” I demanded.

Jet waved to my muffler. “I was awake, and you’d rolled off me, so I got up and let you sleep. Checked out the Kombi and themuffler was loose. She’s a classic. So many original features on her.”

“Her?”

“Yeah, Kombis are definitely girls. What’s her name?”

“She—it—doesn’t have a name.”

“Sheneeds a name.”

“I’ve been more concerned with planning my trip, and I haven’t had time to think of a name?—”
