Jet turned to the van and considered the orange and white paint job and chrome bumper. An ancient, faded sticker clung to the back window in defiance of its age: a corgi with ‘sassy butt’ written underneath.
I openly stared as his arms flexed when he wiped sweat from his brow. Sweat beaded on his chest and his arms. One bead of sweat almost followed the swirls and pattern of this tattoos as it made its way down. I may have had a hangover, but I hadn’t forgotten just how much I wanted to lick those arms last night.
Jet clicked his fingers. “Bessie.”
“Huh?” I asked, reluctantly lifting my gaze from his biceps to look him in the eye.
“Bessie. Definitely.”
“Who? The van?”
“Yep. For sure.”
“That’s a ridiculous name. Hey, are these my tools?” I bent down to pick up a spanner and turned around to face him and caught Jet checking out my butt. I stamped my foot. “Excuse me! You can’t just make yourself at home here. You’re a complete stranger and—” I gulped as dread washed over me. “Fuck, you warned me about picking up complete strangers last night, didn’t you?”
Jet nodded. “What else do you remember, Ari?”
“I … ah … said I was getting orgasms, and then … It’s blurry after that.” My cheeks were burning up.
“You almost fell to the floor when we got up to leave.”
“Oh God, the wine! I only had three.” My hand flew to my stomach. “I forgot to eat.” My hand then flew to my forehead. “And I didn’t pay my tab!”
“I took care of it. Ryan had to cover the speed dating night while Debra helped me get you home. I pretty much carried you here. And don’t worry, you used the bathroom by yourself and drank some water. And you didn’t puke.”
It’s a special kind of relief when you’re reassured you hadn’t peed your pants or puked over yourself.
“Mum just let you come to the house?” I balled up my fists. “I’m going to kill her when I see her! But …” I paused, looking down my front. “Why am I wearing your tee shirt?” I pointed the spanner at his chest to keep some distance between us. At his impressively broad, bare, glistening chest.
“First, I don’t think Debra could’ve carried you by herself. And second, you basically did a strip show. I chased you around the van to put a shirt on, but you refused every tee shirt you own and threw them everywhere.” Jet paused, and his cheeks pinked. “And yes, I saw your tits.” His eyes strayed down to my chest as he murmured, “Bloody great tits.”
His eyes snapped back up to mine, and he cleared his throat. “I swear I was nothing but a gentleman last night, but it’s really hard not to notice your breasts when you were topless. The only shirt you would agree to wear was mine.”
I crossed my arms. “So last night, did we … you know?”
“No,no!Ari. I would never—” He waved his hands and then sighed. “I’m not that kind of guy. Shit. I promise you, I’m not an arsehole! You can check with Debra about how I updated her with texts about you after she went back to the speed dating night.”
“She just left me with you?” My jaw fell open.
“Ari, you demanded I stay with you until you fell asleep.”
“How do I know you didn’t cop a feel when I was out of it?”
“Oh, Ari, that’s all on you last night.” He took a step towards me, his eyes turning from earnest to fiery in an instant. “Your hands wander when you’re drunk.”
“I beg your pardon!”
How dare he! Jet took another step forward. I dropped the spanner and backed away but found myself up against Bessie.I mean the van.
“You slept on me last night,” he said in a low voice. “You would only settle if you were sprawled across my chest, and as to your hands, they—” He paused to lick his lips. “They kept travelling south.”
“You’re lying,” I whispered, horrified.
Jet raised one eyebrow. “You kept saying you wanted to touch my Wonder Dick.”
‘Wonder Dick’ triggered a memory: me tracking my hand down his happy trail, moaning,“But I wanna touch your Wonder Dick!”and Jet catching my hand, laughing, telling me to go to sleep.
I pressed a hand to my burning forehead, my stomach roiling. “I’m so sorry. I was not myself last night. That’s not an excuse. Sorry.”
