Sadly the ride has to end. She hasn’t explored my property so she doesn’t know where we’re going.

When I stop the machine she jumps off and runs to the water’s edge. “I didn’t know there was a lake back here!” She exclaims while spinning around to take it all in.

“It’s one of the reasons I bought this place. I wanted to be further from town and go completely off-grid. But, when the realtor showed me the lake and told me it is completely private, well I couldn’t pass it up.”

“How much of it do you own?” She ask.

“Well the lake takes up around 50 acres, then there is another 150 acres of old wood forest. The cabin spot encompasses 5 acres.” I answer, watching her jaw drop.

“Holy shit.” She whispers.

I just shrug my shoulders. “When I started hitting it big in the MMA world, I didn’t get stupid. I invested and saved. This place was worth every penny.”

Leaving Cass to explore the shore line I return to the quad and unload everything for our date.

Laying out a couple of sleeping bags to cushion us against the frozen ground. From the thermal bag I pull out hot fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and biscuits.

I’m pulling a bottle of wine and some glasses out of the under-seat storage when I feel Cass wrap her arms around me.

“Mmmm, everything looks so good. Smells good too!” She tells me.

“Come on,” I reach for her hand, directing her over to the sleeping bags. Once she is settled down, I light a small campfire for us to enjoy as the sun sets.

We eat and talk for what feels like hours until Cass sleepily snuggles in beside me.

Together we watch as the stars begin to shine. Well, she watches the stars as I’m too busy watching her.

I don’t even have to look, the moment the reason I brought her out here glimmers into view as the world goes silent.

Ribbons of blue, green and purple light shine so bright in the night sky. She gasps when she finally opens her eyes enough to see it.

Pulling her closer, we stay out until I notice her lips are turning blue from the cold. Cass doesn’t want to leave, everything is so peaceful and beautiful out here.

Finally, after I promise she can come back anytime she wants, Cass and I return to my cabin.

Over the next two weeks we spend every moment we can together.

When the day finally comes, I watch as she gets on her motorcycle and drives away.
