“Yes, they did but they all went to the hotel first. Since the staff there would be crazy with that group already, we came here first instead.” Austin smiles.

“So you two know each other?” Arin looks between Lily and myself.

“We went to school together. We were best friends. Still are I hope. I knew you said you had a new girl named Cass working here but I never would have guessed it to be her.” Lily smiles back at me but her and Arin seem to share a look that each understands without saying a word.

“Why don’t we go to the break room so the two of you can catch up? Austin, you coming?”

“Absolutely not! I’m going to go find Taylor and bug his ass for a while.” He kisses Lily on the cheek and waves as he heads out the door.

“He seems nice.” I look back at my friend.

“He’s amazing!” She loops her arm into mine, turning us both to follow Arin to the back.

“What about the front desk?” I start to protest.

“Mika is finishing up her last client and will lock up. I didn’t want any of us working late tonight since we have the picnic tomorrow.” Arin answers.

Walking into that room with these two, I feel like I’m walking to my doom. With both of them ganging up on me, I’ll have to come clean about why I’m really here. Lily won’t be able to let it go until I tell her.

She’s right. She was and still is my best friend. There’s no way I could lie to her.

She’ll want to try to fix it. That’s who she is. A fixer.

I just don’t see how this can be fixed though. Going to the cops would never work.

I’ve seen plenty of crime shows to know that a restraining order is just a piece of paper. It never stops the bad guy.

As for what I overheard while he was on the phone, that would just turn into a he said, she said scenario.

Hearsay is what they call it. They’ll never believe me, then, after everything, he’ll still come after me.

No fucking thank you!
