Page 9 of Cass' Vow

I’ve been at the picnicfor an hour dodging all the same women I’m constantly faced with during several of my classes.

There’s only one I’m interested in and she’s currently across the yard talking with Lily.

That was a big surprise. To find out that Cass has known Lily, my best friend’s wife, for years.

“I thought you weren’t interested in any of the women here in Alaska?” Austin says from beside me.

I’d been staring at Cass for so long, I didn’t hear or see him walk up next to me.

“I’m not.” I take a sip of my beer, looking over at him but my eyes automatically zero back in on Cass as she walks back inside with a group of women.

“That wasn’t very convincing,” Taylor says dryly from my other side, making me jump.

Shit! I didn’t see him either.

“Don’t you two have something better to do today? Like, help your wives with the grill or something?” I grumble into my beer.

“Nope. The Wolfsbane boys are over the grill.” Taylor nods in their direction.

“Maybe they need your help.” I growl, trying to get them to go away so I can go back to staring at Cass who just came back outside carrying a platter.

One of the guys from the MC runs over with a smile, taking the platter from her. My lip curls to see her smile back at him.

“I wouldn’t let him see you looking at him like that.” An unfamiliar voice says quietly from the other side of Taylor.

“Baratta! I was wondering where you were hiding.” Taylor says with a smile. “Jake, this is Baratta. He’s Fiona’s husband.”

I lean around and shake the man’s hand. He has a firm grip and seems pleasant enough but his eyes seem to look right through you making the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

Looking back towards Cass, the same man yet again is making her smile and I grip my beer tightly.

“You don’t have anything to worry about there.” Baratta nods in their direction. “Blade’s wife would skin him alive and feed him to a bear back home.”

Although we all chuckle at his description, I’m not entirely sure he didn’t mean every word of what he said.

“How’s married life Baratta?” Taylor asks. They start up a conversation about building a house and paint colors.

I drown them out as I continue observing Cass as she interacts with everyone around her.

I’m still not sure what it is about her that draws me in. It doesn’t help that I’ve taken to dreaming about her after every single class that I have with her.

She fills out her clothes in all the right places. In my fantasies I imagine running my hands around every single curve of her body.

“Earth to Jake!” Austin waves his hand in front of my face.

“Sorry, man. I was lost in thought.” I clear my throat.

“Yeah. Right.” He chuckles looking back across the yard. “Have you asked her out yet?”

“What?”

“Asked her out? You know, what normal people do.” He looks at me expectantly.

“No. I haven’t.” I admit and he starts laughing.

“Oh, this is classic.” He laughs even harder. “Now, you’re the one being a pussy.” He doubles over when I growl and walk away.
