“Don’t be jealous,” he snorted, catching my expression. “It could be a room of enraptured birds, and he’d bask in the attention the same. It’s in his blood.”

“I’m not jealous,” I said, far too quickly.

Dusk grinned, leaning back in his chair.

Again, before I could catch myself, I saw a pretty blonde omega I didn’t recognise join Eric. She was clearly enthralled byhim, and he caught my eye, offering me a nasty smirk before I tore my eyes away.

I wondered when Jasmine would make her play.

She’d seemed so confident that it would work. I didn’t know if I wanted it to, but I thought, perhaps, they deserved each other.

When we saw Jasmine next, however, she wasn’t approaching the Lincoln pack at all.

Instead, she came sashaying up the steps toward us. At the sight of her shimmery black dress and the sway of her glossy, high-ponytail, I tensed.

What was she doing here?

I noticed more attention on us than usual as Jasmine lowered her glass to her side, stopping between Dusk and Ransom, and holding her hand out delicately, fingers curled as if they were going to reach up and kiss it.

“Jasmine Lynn,” she said. “I left you flowers but we never got a chance to speak. It’s lovely to meet you, Dusk...” Her gaze slid to Ransom as if I didn’t exist. “Ransom. I saw you at the party ever so briefly. That was an... impressive show.”

I was absolutely still, every hair on my body standing on end as I stared at her.

The ball fell away, the dancers, the music, the thousand watching eyes.

“We aren’t open for courting,” Dusk said, his voice icy enough I’m surprised it didn’t send her running.

Why was she here?

Jasmine pouted, drawing her hand back.

My lips pulled back in a snarl, fingers clenching on the rests of my chair. Blood pounded in my ears, but I remained frozen, holding on by the thinnest thread, struggling to keep at bay the rage that used to rule me. But it was lifting its ugly head, cracking the balance my pack offered me since I’d been bitten.

She wasn’t here for them.

Shecouldn’tbe.

They were mine...

“You have a pack already, don’t you?” Dusk asked. His continued coldness settled me by the slightest of fractions, but the thundering of my heart against my ribs was almost painful.

“Not one like this,” she replied, voice silky smooth. “I would drop them in a heartbeat for a pack with a little extra...” Her gaze darted to me, sliding down to the dark bond on my neck. “Fun.”

I saw red.

“Oh, youlittle—” Roxy began, but cut off.

I let out a primal growl, and, dress and heels notwithstanding, threw myself at Jasmine with all my might.

I took us both down, and we crashed into the marble, sanity forgotten in the seat behind me.

“They’remine!” My voice was guttural, primal instincts sweeping me away as my nails dug into her arms hard enough to make her shriek in pain.

Not enough.

I’d kill her.

“Shatter! Let go.”
