“I brought cookies,” she says, grabbing the plate next to her and holding it out.

I grab one and shove a bite in my mouth. “Fine. You can stay,” I say with a mouthful of chocolate chips. My favorite. She knows all my favorites.Oh, goddammit.

“Where’s the guys?” I ask.

She hops up from the bed. “I need a drink,” she says as I follow her back out to the kitchen. “They apparently had a sudden urge for tequila, so they were heading out to the liquor store when I got here.”

“Tequila? Really? Those dipshits are going to get wasted.”

She snorts out a laugh. “Well, yeah. What else did you expect at a housewarming party? For everyone to sit around knitting and playing charades?”

“Fuck off,” I laugh, grabbing two beers from the fridge and cracking the tops off. I hand one to her. “This was supposed to be a guys’ night, but then Trevor said he was bringing Brooke, so I told Declan he could bring Addison.” I match my stare with hers. “And now I’m stuck with you.”

She sticks her tongue out at me. “Addison’s coming? Good, I like her. I can see why she chose the hot brother over you.”

I narrow my eyes. “We have the same face.”

“Sure,” she giggles.

“Besides,” I say way too defensively, making me sound less convincing. “She didn’t choose him over me. That’s not what happened.”

“Oh really? Because that’s not what I’ve heard from, oh, I don’t know, everyone I’ve talked to about the situation, including your mother.”

“God,” I laugh. “You’re like this little pest who can’t just mind her own business.”

“Pot calling the kettle black much?”

She’s not wrong. “Speaking of, why all the secrecy about the new job? What if something happens there? How am I supposed to find you?”

“Find me?” she asks with a startled laugh. “What are you going to do?”

“Thea,” I say more sternly. “What if there’s an emergency?”

“You’re not my emergency contact, Mack.”

“Thea.”

She raises her eyebrows. “What? I’ll call the police if there’s an emergency. What the fuck are you going to do to help? It’s not like you’re CPR certified or something.”

I clench my jaw, trying not to lose it. “You’re so fucking infuriating.”

“Aw,” she patronizes. “You still love me though.”

“Yeah,” I exhale. “Unfortunately.” I slam my beer on the counter. “Now give me another one of those cookies.”

???

Thea

I hand Addy another beer as I plop back down onthe couch, taking a sip of my own even though we’re both lightweights and probably don’t need these. Surprisingly though, the men still seem to have outdrunk us. Probably all those tequila shots.

I lean back into the couch, and my shoulder brushes against Mack’s. I take another huge gulp of my beer, trying to wash down unwanted feelings. Thank God the pizza arrived earlier before I said something insane like I love you too. It doesn’t help the way he’s always more handsy when he’s drunk. It’s never anything inappropriate, well, except my thoughts when it happens.

Trevor flings his arms around as we all stare in confusion, trying to figure out what he’s doing. Mack’s hand suddenly clamps down around my ankle in excitement as pushes himself up on the couch.

“Oh! Oh! A turkey sandwich!” he shouts.

Trevor points directly at him. “Yes!”
