“So what’s up, here to bring me home?” I laugh and Eli snorts.

“I'm not kissing you at the doorstep when we get there.”

I eye Ax and his jaw tenses. “That security breach Eli had two weeks back, we found the guy.”

“Warehouse?” I ask and he nods.

“He’s already singing like a fucking canary,” Eli grins.

“You really made me work a whole fucking shift and miss all the fun?” I snap.

“Figured you’d wanna finish him off when you hear,” Ax smirks.

“It’s about Kate isn’t it?”

Neither of them say anything.

“Let’s go then. You can fill me in on the way.”

CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

AX

By the time we get back to the house it’s nearly two in the morning. I’m freshly washed after the activities at the warehouse. Running into Katie covered in blood would only cause another melt down. Her panic attacks haven’t lessened but pulling her out of them is getting easier. What’s not getting easier is hearing the sound of her moaning and knowing it’s not at my hands.

“Slow down man, what the fuck,” Eli snaps.

“My bad.”

“You’ve been in a shit mood all day.”

“Did you not just hear the same bullshit I did from that piece of shit?”

“No, even before that,” he starts and he stops short as he laughs. “Ever since you barged in Kate's room this morning.”

“Fuck you.”

I can see him shake his head at me and resist the urge to throw him out of the damn car.

“Don’t kill us just because you're jealous.”

“I’m not jealous of shit.”

He snickers. “You have your head so far up your ass you won’t even admit that you like her. Asher and I already promised her no drama from us. Shit, I’m glad that when I’m not there I knowshe’s safe with him. You’re the only one refusing to get close to her.”

“She’s living in my house and I am literally busting my ass to make sure she’s safe while I fix her mess of a life. I don’t need to get my dick sucked to let her know she’s safe with me.”

“Who are you even lying to anymore? Me or yourself? You’re scared of her liking you back because you know you’re still withholding shit.”

I park the car but my hands grip the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turn white.

“Wouldn’t you?” I snap.

“Look,” he sighs as we hear Asher’s bike approaching. “She’s gonna be pissed. Probably gonna want to punch you a few times. But in the realm of shit she’s been dealing with from her dad, your shit doesn’t even touch it. Do everyone a favor and stop treating her like she’s an inconvenience. If you push her too far, there’s no coming back.”

I grunt a ‘fuck you’ at him as he just continues laughing at me. We head in through the garage only to be caught off guard by noticing the lights that lead out back are turned on. Eli catches my eye and peeks out the window. “Edgar’s sitting outside the music room.”

We head towards him but he holds his finger to his lips as we approach. The door is slightly cracked and as we get closer I stop in my tracks.
