“The guy was able to give us some information and we are working to figure out a way to stop all of this,” Eli tells me and I eye him.

“Stop all of this…?”

No one speaks.

“Your dad sold you, and they want to collect. They were trying to hack the security here to find a way to get to you,” Red answers after the silence drags on for far too long. “They paid your dad and they are sick of waiting to get what they paid for.”

“So, I’ll just…” I hesitate and shake my head trying to find a solution. “Hack my trust fund. I’ll give them that. It’s more than they even paid right?”

It’s quiet as they all seem to avoid my eyes.

“What don’t I know Ax!” I snap.

“I told you my dad was helping your mom. He liked her but that doesn’t mean he was a saint. He saw the opportunity for a payday and took it.”

My hands clench under the table. “How?”

“To have you marry someone he chose as insurance that she’d keep her promise of him getting half of your trust fund when you turn 21.”

“Bullshit!” I hiss at him. “She wouldn’t do that.”

“She was out of options.”

“And who the hell am I supposedly married to?”

The room is silent and I glare at Ax as his eyes finally find mine.

“Who?!”

“Me.”

“You son of a bitch!” I scream as I find myself reaching across the table.

Eli grabs me around the waist and holds me in place.

“Kate—” he starts but I elbow him in the stomach.

He grunts as he lets go, obviously surprised and caught off guard.

“Don’t touch me! Screw you! All of you!”

“You gotta understand darlin’,” Red starts, but I don’t want to hear it.

“No. Fuck you. You mean to tell me my dad sold me to be a sex slave, while my mom married me off at fourteen to be your daddy’s payday? You’re no better than the other fuckers that think they have a right to own me.”

I head toward the exit of the kitchen when I hear Ax slam his fist on the table.

“Where the hell are you going?” he snaps.

“As far away from here as possible.”

“You can’t,” Asher says desperately as he steps to me. “The guys your father made a deal with are still trying to get to you.”

“And the ones my mom made a deal with are what? Protecting me until I sign everything over to you all? Thanks, I feel so much safer.”

“Listen here little girl,” Lucky says, standing, and Eli looks like he may punch him.

He doesn’t seem to care, the veins in his neck exploding as his face turns red.
