“I’m supposed to be finding hobbies,” I say awkwardly. “Do you think Monday you could show me some easy recipes or something?”

Her face lights up. “Absolutely! I will see you on Monday!”

I head towards the kitchen but linger by the study when I hear voices.

“—obviously lying. We knew that. They both are,” I hear Eli’s voice say.

“I don’t think she’s got much of a choice in the matter. He has something on her,” I hear Asher say.

“She’s not so innocent. Stop thinking with your dick,” Ax snaps.

“I mean, can you blame me?” Asher chuckles and I hear the sound of flesh hitting flesh followed by Asher yelling, “Ow! Fuck man.”

“I want to know what the hell he’s doing making decisions for her. And what he has access to—” Ax continues but is cut short.

“Uh, guys?” Eli says, and the door swings open.

My face flushes at being caught listening and my eyes fall to the computer screen behind them that shows all different angles of the house. Including the fact I’m standing right there at the doorway.

Whoops.

“What the hell are you doing?” Ax growls as he rounds on me.

He steps to me so quickly I back away, my back hitting the wall with a thud.

“Why are you talking about me and my dad?” I ask, trying to regain some composure and not seem completely pathetic.

“You have your secrets, and we have ours,” he says with a dark smirk.

From this angle of him glaring down at me, one might think of Ax West as sexy.

Not me.

Well. Okay. That’s a bit of a lie.

But he’s also terrifying.

“Except your secrets have to do with me,” I accuse him.

He chuckles and runs a hand down his face.

“You are so clueless, I almost feel sorry for you.”

With that, he backs away and heads towards the kitchen. Asher and Eli both hesitate as they eye me and Asher sighs as he follows Ax.

Eli pauses before following them and as he brushes past me he softly says, “You really are clueless, princess.”

The anger and amusement that Ax had in his voice is missing from Eli’s. If anything, he seems to pity me and I hate it even more.

“So, fill me in?” I ask as I follow him towards the kitchen.

Asher snorts. “Not it,” he mumbles into his beer.

Eli and Ax glare at each other until Ax finally makes eye contact with me. He grabs a beer from the fridge and holds it to me.

I glare at him. “You gonna call and tattle on my dad for me drinking again?” I snap as I pop the beer open.

“You gonna need your meds—”
