“But he did want to lock me in the basement?”

Eli smirks with a raised eyebrow as the waitress brings us our food.

“Have you even seen the basement?”

“That sounds like a shitty pick up line that leads to girls being murdered.”

Eli snorts into his coffee.

“You’re not wrong,” he agrees. “But seriously, the basement is the length of the house and fully furnished.”

My cheeks redden. Whoops.

“My bad. It didn’t sound so… appealing.”

“I gathered that much,” he laughs as I pick at my food and down my coffee. “So, tell me something about yourself, Katelyn Elizabeth.”

I groan. “Only if you tell me your middle name too. That’s totally unfair.”

“Elijah Daniel Huxley,” he says, holding a hand out for me to shake.

I chuckle at the gesture but don’t take his hand.

“Elijah Daniel,” I nod. “What would you like to know? And this has been a good morning so far so don’t ruin it.”

He smiles softly and his blue eyes hold mine.

“Why doesn’t your dad want anyone to know where you were?”

I roll my eyes. “A variety of reasons I’m sure. Does he know that you all know yet?”

Eli shakes his head.

“Explains why my phone isn’t blowing up. He said the publicity would be bad. But honestly, he just doesn’t want anyone digging into how he got them to keep me for so long.”

“Sounds like there’s a lot of questions that have to be dug into,” he says, and I can’t tell if it’s a question or not but I nod in agreement anyway.

“Do you even study music? Or want to study music?”

“I used to play. My mom taught me.”

It falls quiet as he nods and I hope he doesn’t press the subject. I’m surprised at myself for even confessing that much to him.

“So…” he says and I eye him. “Have a threesome last night?”

I smack him on the side of the head as the waitress brings our check over. She lingers for a minute, eyeing Eli, before finally laying down a piece of paper with her number on it. She flushes red before disappearing and I bite back a laugh. Eli pays the bill and stands to leave without taking the phone number scribbled on the piece of paper.

“Don’t be rude,” I hiss at him and he raises his eyebrow at me as we exit the diner.

“Me? She’s the one who gave her number without even considering that maybe we were on a date.”

I laugh at him shaking my head. “We hardly look like we are on a date.”

We climb in the car and he glances at me. “How’s that?”

“For starters that would have been a horrible place for a date,” I tease and he grins.

“More of an upscale restaurant kind of girl?”
