“So, are you ever gonna tell me where you really were the last four years?” She asks hopping up to sit next to me and handing me the sundae.

“You mean it wasn’t Mars?” Scott asks with a grin as he and the other three guys play a card game at the dining table.

I roll my eyes. “Mars would have been better,” I admit.

“Were you, like, you know, in jail?” Bianca tries to whisper but I swear this girl doesn’t have volume control.

“What would you think she’d be in jail for?” Eli asks, grinning.

“Cutting someone’s nuts off,” Scott says without hesitating and I laugh loudly.

“I wasn’t in jail,” I assure them and spoon a mouthful of ice cream into my mouth as Bianca eyes me.

“I just worry, you know?” She finally says and I see the watery gaze from emotion and alcohol overtaking her. “The last time I saw you, I thought—”

“I’m fine Bee, really. I just don’t wanna talk about it tonight. I’m just happy to be home. Or, at Ax’s home I guess,” I chuckle as I glance over to the table.

The guys are all working hard to avoid looking at me as they focus on their game but I don’t miss Ax’s dark gaze flick to me briefly.

“No more disappearing on me,” Bianca says, grabbing me in a sideways hug.

I nod and lay my head against her shoulder. “Not if I can help it,” I assure her.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Come morning, I groan from sleeping awkwardly in bed with both Bianca and Scott. I vaguely remember her dubbing it a ‘Bianca filled Oreo’ before falling asleep. I groan as I take a shower, hoping the hot water will wash away some of my hangover before I change into a loose sundress and leave Bianca and Scott spooning in my bed.

I drag myself down to the kitchen and Edgar grins at me from the kitchen island with amusement. “Morning, Miss Katelyn,” he says.

I grumble a response as I grab for the hot coffee and he doesn’t even attempt hiding his chuckle from behind me.

“Be nice, old man,” I warn him as I turn to glare at him. “I haven’t had a hangover since I was thirteen.”

He sighs and shakes his head. “Not even touching that one, dear. However, I was actually waiting on you. I’ve been instructed to bring you to town for supplies.”

“Supplies?”

“Mister West says you need paint to fix some doors.”

I snort into my coffee. “Mister West can kiss my ass.”

“Why am I kissing your ass?” I hear and turn towards where Ax is entering the kitchen.

He is wearing nothing but gym shorts and is drenched in sweat. “Where did you just come from? The sun?”

He rolls his eyes at me, obviously not appreciating my humor.

“The gym.”

“You have a gym?”

He sighs. “You really haven’t explored the entire house yet?”

I roll my eyes at him and shrug. “Not yet, I’m obviously too busy shopping for paint supplies.”

He smirks at me as he grabs a coffee mug and leans across me to make his own coffee. I scoot away to give him space and he eyes me curiously before turning away.

“It’s the least you can do.”
