“So, were you listening during my doctor’s visits?”

“Not the first one.”

I glare at him. “That’s an invasion of privacy.”

“It’s my house.”

I roll my eyes. “That hardly gives you the right—”

“I didn’t trust that second doctor,” he cuts me off and I see his knuckles turn white as he clenches the desk tightly.

“That’s how you knew…”

“Yeah.”

It’s quiet for a few minutes and I suddenly realize how close he is as he leans over me.

“Does my dad know? About not being in charge anymore?”

“No but I’m sure he will find out soon.”

“What makes you say that?”

He smirks without looking at me. “Pretty sure he won’t be able to get a hold of that doctor anytime soon.”

“Did you kill him?!” I shout, and Ax backs up as he just grins at me with amusement.

“Would that bother you?”

“Well, yeah,” I say.

Obviously.

He shrugs. “Even if I did, what makes you think I’d tell you?”

“You can’t just kill him for being a shitty doctor,” I mutter as my stomach flutters uncomfortably.

He couldn’t have just killed him, right?

He’s fucking with me.

“I could, actually,” he says laughing. “But I didn’t. He just won’t be working as a doctor or anything higher than janitor for a while.”

I wanna scold him for getting involved but I stop myself. He really shouldn’t be a doctor.

Piece of shit.

“Well… okay. Thank you, I guess.”

He nods as his eyes continue watching me like he can read me somehow.

“Gonna tell me why you lied about playing?” He asks, as I stand up.

I fidget under his accusing eye. I should just tell him to shove it.

“I wasn’t. I don’t play. At least, not anymore.”

“Why?”
