My body fully remembers that medication.

My vision grows spotty as I try to fight off the flash back and panic attack simultaneously. Mary-Mae seems happy with herself as she flings her long hair over her shoulder and disappears from my eyesight. My hands feel along the wall for a door knob and I let myself inside a room, not caring whether it is mine or not.

I shut the door, sitting in a ball beside it as my body trembles. I try to remind myself of where I am, where I'm not, what is real and what is fake.

Something about grounding.

All the coping skills seem to have flown out the window. I rest my forehead on my knees and practice deep breathing as my ears ring. I feel like I’m drowning. My lungs burn.

Something touches my shoulder making me jump to my feet so fast, the room spins. My eyes take a second to focus and it doesn’t help my anxiety when I find Ax’s dark eyes staring back at me. The flicker of worry disappears from his face quickly.

“You’re in my room.”

“Bite me,” I snap.

His eyes show amusement but before he can say anything I swing the door open to return to the hall. Eli and Asher stare back at me strangely.

“You good?” Asher asks.

“Need something?” Eli asks.

Mary’s warning that the boys will be told how tohandle mescreams in my head on repeat and I remind myself to focus.

“Fine. Where’s my room?”

Eli points at a door across the hall. I take wobbly steps to the door, hoping they can’t see how bad I’m trembling. Once in the room, I shut the door with a deep breath. I finally get hold of myself but my mood turns sour once more when I glance around the room.

Pink. Glitter. Everywhere.

“What. The. Fuck!” I scream out in disgust.

The door of my room flies open and Eli looks at me worried.

“Who the hell decorated this room?!”

It takes Eli a second to register that my scream had to do with the irritating bedroom decor and he lets out a small laugh. Asher leans against the doorframe grinning at me.

“You’ve got Ax to thank for this.”

“What’s the matter, the princess doesn’t approve of her room?” Ax asks, approaching the doorway as well.

My large room feels suddenly smaller with these three jerks blocking me in.

“I’m assuming you aren’t living here as an in-house decorator, because if so you’re immediately fired.”

Ax just smirks with a shrug. “I thought it would suit you.”

“It would suit me more to shove that curtain rod right up your fucking—”

“Katelyn Elizabeth!”

I groan at my father’s voice. Ax moves further into the room to make space for my father who glares at me. Mary-Mae looks pleased, tucked under his arm.

“You are on thin fucking ice,” he warns me. “Am I good to leave or should I postpone? I didn’t realize she'd still be like this when she returned from her school,” he says, eyeing the guys.

I laugh darkly at his comment and he glares at me.

“I’m sure we can handle it,” Eli chuckles.
