“It’s sealed down,” he says, shaking his head. “I don’t know what it says but there’s some type of nondisclosure that was signed about two and a half years ago. Then it was edited about three months later. All I can locate are the signatures.”

I glance at the screen. “That’s not the same as the first one,” I say pointing out Katelyn’s signature from the edited document.

“Exactly my thoughts. It also looks like there was a large sum of money exchanged into this account. I’m still backtracking to find what the original amount was but I’m guessing her dad got access to it because he took over everything while she was locked away.”

Locked away.

Not getting help.

Being kept prisoner by her own father so he could help himself to her money and keep her from me.

“I want that account locked down. He’s no longer gonna have access to it. When’s the last time he used it?”

“Just today. I’m guessing this is where he’s been getting most of his money.”

“Not anymore. What about that doctor that bitch mentioned?”

Eli hesitates and I raise an eyebrow at him.

“Are you going to break my computer?”

I grit my teeth. “Just fucking tell him so we can figure out how to handle it,” Asher snaps from the door way.

Eli shakes his head. “There’s not much. But he’s been bounced around to quite a few adolescent and children's mental health hospitals. Each time he leaves one it’s because of some nondisclosure agreement that’s sealed away and it looks like both him and the hospital fork out a bunch of money.”

“What is in those agreements, Eli?” I hiss.

He shakes his head. “I can’t get into any of them but…” he clenches his own fist as he sighs. “The pattern looks a whole lot like rape accusations. I got a guy that contracts with me sometimes. He’s a fucking genius with this stuff, I’m gonna give him a call to help look into all and hunt down the agreements.”

I slam the desk making the computer shake as Eli tries to steady it. I ram my hand into the wall, ignoring the fact that this time it does leave a hole.

“That son of a bitch!” I yell and the look from Asher’s face reminds me that Kate is still asleep down the hall. “Call up Lucky. I want him to find this doctor and find where he gets his money from. Then sit on him till I say otherwise.”

“Looks like Stephen just tried to access the account,” Eli says as the computer screen flashes.

Less than a second later, Kate's phone flashes in my hand.

“Is there a problem, Stephen?” I ask, and Eli and Asher step closer to hear.

“Ax? Wha… where’s my daughter?”

“That’s none of your concern.”

“Excuse me?” He hisses.

“Looks like we have some new ground rules to discuss,” I grin.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

KATE

I wake in a panic and wipe the sweat away from my brow. I glance around the room finding it empty but the memories of the night before feel so heavy I can barely breathe.

I drag myself to the bathroom and take a cold shower, letting the water wake me. I’m shivering by the time I get out but at least I feel more alive. I shuffle through my closet for a crop top and shorts, feeling the heat of summer despite the central air conditioning. I take a breath, trying to prepare myself for whatever I have to deal with as far as explanations for the guys, but when I get to the kitchen, I only find Eli grinning at me.

“Morning sunshine. Hurry and eat, we are late.”

My face falls and worry hits his face.
