I didn’t bother giving her three seconds before lifting a leg and kicking right beside the handle. The door buckled on impact, crashing into the wall. Sienna sat in the center of the bed, legs crossed and eyes wide as she watched me walk into the room.

Her hair, unbound as usual, cascaded down her shoulders, and the paleness of her face immediately reddened as she saw me. I couldn’t tell if it was in anger or embarrassment, but I didn’t care as I strode toward her.

“Give me one reason,” I said, stopping at the side of the bed.

“One reason for what?”

“One reason that you’re being so God damned difficult,” I shouted, and she flinched back. “Give me a reason that you think you can get away with treating me and everyone in my household like shit. There better be a fucking reason. I don’t owe you anything, and you’re being more inconvenient than you’re worth.”

My moral codes were something I’d never broken, but I’d also never been pushed so far past my breaking point. I didn’t hurt or kill women without an impenetrable reason.

I’d also never met one so willing to piss me off.

“You just broke down the door,” she shouted, pointing to it in shock.

“No shit.”

She shook her head. “Since when do you act like an animal?”

I couldn’t stop myself from reaching forward and grabbing her wrist. I tugged her from the bed, borderline dragging her to her feet. I pulled her into my chest and looked down at her with all the menace I gave my worst enemies. “I warned you about whoI am. I told you the things I do, and you didn’t seem fazed. Does this really surprise you?”

“No,” she admitted. “I was wondering when you’d show your true face.”

My true face?

She had no idea how unhinged and unsettling mytrue facecould be. I'd worked hard to keep her from seeing that part of me. I hadn’t wanted to terrify her while I worked to get information. Seeing that side of me would break a woman like her.

“Do you want to see my true face, Stellina?” I asked. “Because I’d be happy to show it to you.”

I expected fear or some sort of animosity to radiate from her. I anticipated that she’d flinch back or beg me to stop. But Sienna held her ground, snarling right back up at me.

“You showed me your true face when you demanded that I become your property after killing two men.”

I chuckled deeply as her warm breath fanned my face. “And you’ll remain that way until I say otherwise.”

“Then you can continue being pissed off because I’m not going to change.”

I struck, grabbing her throat in a tactic that intimidated her the first time I did it. I held the delicate skin beneath my hand and squeezed lightly. Her eyes narrowed, and my cock immediately hardened at the lack of fear I saw in her eyes. She should have been terrified of me. I hadn’t planned on grabbing her from thebed or holding her throat in my hands, but the rage within my chest seemed to have a mind of its own.

I should fucking kill her and get it over with, but the image of my late mother still haunted all of my thoughts. The promise I’d made to her.

Fuck.

“Are you sure about that?” I asked.

“I’m nobody’s property, even if you plan on treating me that way. I won’t allow myself to be afraid of a man like you.”

“Like me?”

“A man who walks through the world, expecting everyone to bow to him. A man who claims to have a code of honor but is willing to take a random woman off the street and claim her as hisproperty.” She scoffed and pressed herself closer to me. The gesture—the complete lack of fear—had me even hotter than before. I wanted to believe the heat came fully from anger, but I knew the truth, and the hardness of my cock revealed it to her, too. “Do whatever you need to feel like you are still on top, but I’m not going to bow down to you like all your other minions.”

I took a step back and pursed my lips. “I clearly made a fucking mistake here. I gave you a place to stay while you work through what you saw—”

“You trapped me here whileyoudecide what to do withme. Don’t make it sound like it’s anything than that.”

I stepped away and turned my back on her, shaking my head. I had nothing else to say as I strode out, waiting for her to send more heated words my way. I left the door wide open as I strolled into the hallway toward my office.

I couldn’t be around her right now. Not when my fists clenched at my sides, begging me to use them. I couldn’t, though. I wouldn’t break that promise.
