The shrill urgency of my voice echoes through the phone as I hastily instruct my lovers to converge at the drug dealer’s address, each word laden with the gravity of the impending danger. The rhythmic beat of my heart quickens, harmonizing with the staccato pace of my breaths, a symphony of apprehension that underscores the imminent confrontation. Don’t ask me what they said to me. I can’t even tell you what I precisely said. I just hope they understood me well enough to meet me there.

I hurry out of Dominic’s house, not bothering to shut the door behind me. I fly to my car, and the engine roars to life. I navigate the streets, each turn and intersection a calculated maneuver toward the heart of the impending threat. My purse is right next to me on my seat, the weight of the gun inside serving as a tangible reminder of the shadows that encroach upon my carefully constructed world, a stark contrast to the veneer of control I’ve meticulously maintained.

As the cityscape unfurls before me, I brace myself for the chaos that awaits at the drug dealer’s lair. My lovers, armed and resolute, become the vanguard in this clandestine operation, their loyalty woven into the fabric of our shared existence. The Black Lotus, my sanctuary, teeters on the precipice, and the impending clash threatens to unravel the delicate threads that bind us together.

In the crucible of impending danger, I steel myself for the looming showdown, determined to confront the darkness that seeks to extinguish the flickering flames of my empire. The journey through the labyrinth of shadows is fraught with uncertainty, but with my lovers by my side, we march toward the heart of the storm, ready to face the tempest that awaits.

CHAPTER 21

The looming threat casts a dark pall over the night as I arrive at the drug dealer’s location, a warehouse that has the look of being abandoned except for all of the massive trucks nearby. The air is thick with tension, and the pulse of the city beats in tandem with my racing heart. The meeting ground is shrouded in an eerie silence, a prelude to the impending storm that awaits.

Jesse and Xavier are already here, and as I get out of my car, Dylan arrives. Alex is there next, and I can’t even be happy to see them. Their faces are as grim and determined as my own. My heart aches, and the taste of sour bitterness won’t go away.

Alex steps up to me. “I did a loop around. There are at least twenty men here.”

“Did you see Dominic?” I ask, not hopeful at all.

He shakes his head.

“What’s the call?” Xavier asks me.

“We need to get inside through any means necessary,” I say grimly.

Jesse holds up a hand. “First…”

He grabs my gun out of my hand, puts a silencer on it, and then passes out silencers to the others. Unlike in movies, thesound won’t be silent when we fire, but the noise will be muffled greatly, and it won’t hurt our ears.

I’m not worried about our ears. I’m too scared for Dominic to focus on anything else.

It doesn’t take long for us to breach the clandestine lair with Jesse and Xavier leading the way. Alex brings up the rear, and Dylan serves as my shadow, my bodyguard and my protector.

It’s Dominic who needs the bodyguard right now. When we get out of this alive, I’m going to insist on him having one and won’t take no for an answer.

The tableau unfolds before us with grim clarity. The sheer amount of drugs in this place, all of the containers… but what’s worse is the bombs.

The drug dealer’s intentions, the volatile dance of danger orchestrated to engulf The Black Lotus in a blaze of destruction, it’s all right here.

And in the shadows, Dominic stands, a lone sentinel in the face of impending doom.

I swear my brother looks right at me. He points toward the door we just entered.

And then he lifts his gun.

He doesn’t aim at Douglas Anderson or any of his henchmen. They’re too busy listening to the drug dealer as he snaps orders. He hasn’t seen any of us. What a fool.

But my brother? He’s anything but a fool as he turns and aims at the nearest bomb.

“No!” I scream, trying to dash forward.

It’s too late.

Strong arms wrap around my waist, and I’m dragged backward as the warehouse explodes.

Dominic.

My brother.

His sacrifice.
