“Since you drove us here, and my parents will be late tonight… I know a spot close by where we can park. It’s a secluded spot in the woods.”

I cock my head, a challenge in my eyes. I see how much she wants me, and this may be the motivation she needs to face her fears. “Only if you’ll let me teach you how to drive.”

Mackenzie bites her lip, staring into my eyes. Then she nods, releasing it, determination pulling her shoulders back. “Okay.”

Grabbing her hand, I pull her from the wall, pressing her knuckles against my lips. “I have faith in you, angel. You’ll do amazing.”

Her smile makes me suck in a breath, my heart pounding. She nods, blonde ponytail swinging. “Thanks for the vote of confidence.” Long lashes blink up at me. “I trust you with my life, Chase.”

I swallow hard, my pulse racing. I love hearing those words from her, even though I have let her down in the past. Remorse regularly rolls through me because I let Orpheus and his crazy cult defile and hurt her.

As we walk down the hallway, I squeeze her hand. Determination swirls inside me.I’ll do anything to make it up to her by doing my best to prevent any more harm from coming her way.

Mackenzie’s fingers grip the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles are white. She doesn’t take her eyes off the road as she bounces slightly in her seat, driving ten miles an hour below the speed limit on the back country road. “Oh my God. I’m doing it, Chase. I’m driving.”

My smile is so wide, my face hurts. Seeing my angel so animated, her face glowing with pride, makes my chest swell with so much love I could burst. I’m honored and thrilled to be a part of this moment in her life. It’s another step for her in her journey toward healing. “You’re doing it, angel. You’re a natural.”

She finally tears her eyes away from the road, her shiny orbs locking with mine because she looks back, her brow furrowing in concentration. “I’m going to pull into that church parking lot and try parallel parking.”

I raise my brows. “Oh, going for the gold medal. Bronze isn’t good enough for my girl.” I pump my fist in the air.

Mackenzie’s sweet laughter fills the vehicle and the fractured pieces of my heart. “That’s right. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.”

“Good motto, angel. I like the way you think.”

It takes her two tries until she successfully parallel parks. Her eyes are lit up with excitement as she raises her hands in the air, humming to the radio. “Come on, Chase. Let’s dance.” Turning up the volume of the Dua Lipa song to a deafening level, she’s out of the car, running around to my side before I’ve opened the door.

As I dance along to the fast-paced beat, I glance around, making sure no one is around, watching me make a fool of myself. When my eyes lock with hers and she spins around, her ass grinding against my rapidly hardening dick, I no longer give a shit what anyone thinks.

The song ends and the gentle notes of “Wild Horses” by The Sundays fill the air. I pull her into my arms, gently swaying her in time with the beat. A content sigh leaves her as she presses her cheek against my chest. “I love this song.”

“Me too. It’s very fitting.” I slowly spin her around. “It’s how I feel about you, Kenz. Wild horses couldn’t drag me away from you.”

She lifts her head, her cheeks pink from the cold air. “Ditto, Chase. Nothing can tear me away from you.”

Love swells in my heart as the twilight descends over us, our feet moving to the beat. We’re oblivious to the cold, lost in our own world.

A giggle comes from her as she lifts her head, blinking rapidly. “I felt a snowflake kiss my cheek.” Holding out her gloved hand, Mackenzie’s face glows with happiness and awe as she catches a snow flurry.

Lifting my face to the sky, I relish the feel of the gentle snow hitting my skin. “Incredible.”

“Just like you.” Standing on her tiptoes, she presses a kiss to my lips.

When she tries to pull away, my gloved hands capture her cheeks, deepening the kiss. A moan slips from her lips as she eagerly responds, her mouth moving hungrily against mine.

When we come up for air, I look around at the snow that’s beginning to cover the parking lot. It silences the noise, turning everything into a glistening white paradise.

“One more song and then we leave?” My voice is husky from the desire racing beneath my veins.

She nods, her eyes glowing with lust. “I’m good with that.”

As I spin her around the parking lot in the snow, our laughter mingles together. We are in our own world. Floating on air. Untouchable.

When the song ends, I dip her with a flourish before pulling her back up. Her body trembles, but I’m not sure if it’s from desire or the cold. Maybe both.

“Chase.” Her voice is a seductive whisper. “Let’s get in the vehicle, turn the heat up the whole way, and go get lost in each other.”

My hands slide beneath her ass, lifting her body. She wraps her legs around my waist, her arms around my neck, as I carry her to the vehicle. “I’m gonna strip your clothes off and sink so deep inside you that I can’t tell where you end, and I begin.”
