Oh, right. We’re still in the bookstore.

I look around for Melody who stands a short distance away, her arms around Jeff. He kisses her before they separate, her glazed eyes meeting mine.

Shooting her a grin, I grab Chase’s hand and head to the register.

“Wait. Don’t you dare pay for those, Chase Landon. I have a gift card you gave me for Christmas.”

He swats my hand away, handing the cashier some money. “Use it later.”

“But isn’t that the money Dad gave you for Christmas?”

He shrugs. “Some of it.” When I open my mouth to protest, he holds up his hand. “I want to spend it on you. Nothing makes me happier than seeing you happy.”

“Fine. But I’m spending my money on you. Don’t bitch about it.”

Chase takes the change from the clerk, who laughs at our exchange before Chase grabs my bag of books, throwing his other arm around me. “We’ll see,” he says, making the clerk laugh harder, before we move away so Melody can pay for her books.

“I’m glad you’re here. It wouldn’t have been good if I would’ve slapped Jamie. She just made me so mad.”

“Trust me, I get it, love.” He eyes the two girls as they stomp across the parking lot, and I can’t help the smile that curves across my lips. When he sees it, Chase raises his brows. “What’s that smile about?”

“Don’t beat them up and go back to jail,” I tease, knowing he wouldn’t hit a woman.

“You wanna be tickled again?”

“Mercy. I surrender.”

He chuckles, his lips against my ear. “How about you surrender by getting on your knees later?”

Desire races through my veins, my panties becoming damp from the tone of his voice and the image inside my head. “Yes, sir.”

“Fuck,” he grumbles, closing his eyes and turning his head. “You’re gonna make me hard, Kenz.”

I shrug. “You started it.” I move closer, making sure no one can see as I grab his dick and squeeze. “I’ll finish it later.”

CHASE

Mike, Mackenzie, and I are in his home office, gathered around his two computer screens, reading the information about cyber school.

Mike nods and turns his head to look at Mackenzie and me. “I think this is a good choice for the two of you. Especially after what transpired today. I’m sure Alex and Brady have more up their sleeves for Chase. They are troublemakers.” Shaking his head, he blows out a breath before shooting us a look. “I can trust the two of you to do schoolwork while I’m at work, correct?”

Mackenzie rolls her eyes. “Yes, Dad. Chase and I won’t be here goofing off and having sex all day.”

“Mackenzie Dawn.” Mike puts his head in his hands. “You’re the reason I have gray hairs sprouting everywhere,” he mutters.

I press my lips together, running a hand over my mouth to try and hide my laugh while my mischievous girl winks and me and mouths,“We’ll just have sex half the day.”

“In all seriousness, Dad, I think cyber school is a better option. You know what’s going to happen if we return to Emerson High. Plus, Chase and I could get jobs and save up money. We’d like to go to college after we graduate.”

Mike lifts his head from his hands, a smile curling his lips. “I’m glad to hear that. Any ideas where and what major?”

I exchanged a look with Mackenzie. “We were thinking of Emerson State University, that way we’d still be relatively close. I’d like to get a part-time job while finishing high school to earn money for college, and Mackenzie has expressed an interest in working part-time as well.”

Mike holds up a hand. “Mackenzie has a college fund we started when she was a baby. We also started one for Gavin…” He clears his throat, sadness and grief blanketing his expression. Huffing out a deep breath, he gives me a smile. “I stopped those contributions after his death, but there’s money in there. I’d like to use it to pay for your tuition, Chase.”

My mouth drops open, amazed at his generosity. “Oh, Mike. I couldn’t?—”
