“I haven’t heard from either of them, Ginger, not since the night of the Harvest.”

“But… but that doesn’t make any sense. I-I just talked to Finn yesterday, and he didn’t—”

“Ginger,” I lightly growled, trying terribly hard not to lose my shit. “Nobody has contacted me or told me shit, period. So, I think now would be the perfect time for you to fill in the blanks.”

“Jace and I made a deal with the Ravagers.”

“What kind of deal?” I asked bitterly.

“If they agreed to help rescue me and the other girls, then Jace agreed to pledge his full loyalty to them.”

“Wait, what?” I shook my head, needing an extra moment to process her words because there was no way in bum-fuck Egypt I heard her correctly. “If that’s true… then that would mean…”

“Yes, Samara. This isn’t a joke. Jace is now working as a spy for the Ravagers.”

The confirmation had my mouth falling open in a sharp gasp. For several long heartbeats, I was too stunned to form words.

“I know you’re upset and extremely frustrated right now, but we didn’t have a choice. If we didn’t do it, who knows where I’d have ended up, or if me and the others would be alive right now. You may not see it, but teaming with the Ravagers was the smartest move we could make. Jace, Finn, and I… We want to burn Damien’s empire, and him along with it, down to the ground. Wrecking his Harvest was only the beginning.”

She paused. My heart pounded away in my chest as she heaved in a quick breath.

“But we can’t do it alone. We need help, Samara. We need the Ravagers. Life is a game of chance, but if all of us, you included, play our cards right from this point forward, wecankill Damien, Samara. Iknowwe can.”

My head spun as I tried to absorb all this information. Was I happy with the news? Fuck no, far fucking from it. The deed had already been done. My only fear now was for Jace and Finn’s lives. If Damien caught so much as a whiff of their deceit, it was game over for all of us, me and Ginger included.

But what if he already knows? Don’t forget about what happened Friday night when Damien answered Jace’s phone.

Oh, God.

I gripped my stomach, feeling sick all of a sudden. “Ginger… You said you talked to Finn yesterday, right?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“Did he say anything to you about Jace’s condition?” She grew quiet again. The tightening in my stomach worsened the longer I waited for her response.

“Not that I recall,” she muttered, sounding uncertain. “He didn’t say anything about that, but hedidtell me that when everything went down, they had to make it look like they were ambushed.”

“Damien answered Jace’s phone a few days ago when I called to ask for an update. I-I heard screaming in the background. It was Jace, Ginger. Damien told me he’d been shot.”

“Oh my God! Is he okay?”

“I don’t know. Damien didn’t give me the option to talk to him. He said there was a doctor tending to Jace, but this happened hoursafterthey rescued you, Gin.” I swallowed, tears burning my eyes. “Something isn’t right. I’m scared he—”

“Listen to me, Samara. I know what you’re thinking, but trust me when I tell you they’re fine. Finn would’ve said otherwise if that were the case.”

“Then why haven’t I heard from Jace since then?” I had to ask, my raised voice cracking. “Or Finn? I tried calling him and texting him, but he won’t answer me.”

“I-I don’t know, Samara. Finndidtell me that Damien is losing his fucking mind right now, so they’re probably playing it safe and lying low, which is exactly whatyoushould be doing. Focus on what you have to do there. Jace and Finn can handle Damien.”

“But I… I finally told Jace I love him, Gin. If I lose him…”

“You won’t,” she promised. “Finn has assured Jace’s full protection now that he’s aligned himself with the Ravagers.”

I smirked at that and reached up to wipe under my eyes. “Oh, yeah? And how can Finn promise the impossible?”

There was another long pause, other than the sound of Ginger blowing out a hard sigh.

“Finn,” she started, swallowing so hard I heard her gulp through the phone. “Finn isn’t really an Outlaw, Samara. I mean, heis, but heisn’t. He… He’s Xavier’s nephew. He’s working undercover. Has been for a while now.”
