I rolled my eyes. “Seriously, Kinsley. What do you want?”

She scooted her tray to the side and leaned forward with her elbows resting on the table, her smile unwavering. “I know you’d like to get back to eating your breakfast in peace, so I’ll skip the bullshit and get straight to the point. I have a proposal for you.”

“And I’m really not interested.”

“Oh, come on, Samara,” she mocked in a fake, hurt tone. “You won’t hear me out?”

“Why should I? The trial is over, Kinsley. Our correlation ended there.”

“And that’s exactly what I wanted to talk to you about.” Kinsley paused and nervously glanced around before her eyes locked back on mine. “I think you and I should team together for the remainder of the trials. You know, you scratch my back, I scratch yours.”

I shot her an incredulous look, my brows raised high to my hairline. “Andwhyshould we do that?”

“Because I can’t depend on Gretchen and Janice to have my back if the second trial ends up being another partnership. Did you know they weren’t even there for me when I’d drowned? Those sluts just left me to die.”

“Sounds like you need better friends,” I grumbled under my breath.

“That’s one thing we can agree on. So, what do you say? I promise I’ll make it worthwhile.”

“I don’t want your money or whatever toxic bullshit you’re trying to offer me.”

Kinsley oddly cocked her head to the side then, giving me another wide grin. “Who said anything about money? What I’m offering you is so much better than that. Something you might find… valuable.”

I snorted, shaking my head. “Yeah, okay, Kinsley. And what might that be?”

“Niccolò Riccardo Antolini.”

“Who the fuck is that?”

“Your father.”

My breath hitched at her words. I leaned closer and leveled my harsh glare perfectly with her glittering eyes. “You don’t have any goddamn clue what you’re talking about. My father’s name is Nicholas Campbell.”

“Wow,” Kinsley scoffed, shaking her head as a look of frank disbelief swept over her face. “You seriously have no idea who you really are… Do you, Samara?”

“Andyoudo?” I asked, the anger and darkness within me rising.

“As a matter of fact, I do.” She grabbed her tray and got to her feet then. “Just think about it. If you agree to partner with me and would like to know more about whoyouareandyour heritage, then you know where to find me.”

She walked away, her words making my sore chest unbearably tight, rendering me speechless.

My eyes followed her path, and as I got to my feet, ready to call out for her to come back, that’s when I saw them. The Ravagers. They’d just entered the dining hall.

And all six of their dark eyes were padlocked on me.

I COULDN'T GET KINSLEY'S WORDS out of my head. All damn day, including now as I was sitting in the library, having decided to ditch lunch, it was all I could think about. I’d gone back to the dorm first, but of course, Sky was there. I still wasn’t in the mood to deal with her shit, plus, I was sort of trying to avoid the Ravagers a little bit longer. I wasn’t ready to deal with them yet either.

Niccolò Riccardo Antolini.

I typed his name into the search engine, smirking as I pulled the first article up and read over the first few paragraphs. Niccolò Riccardo Antolini was known as Storm Ridge Valley’s top and most brutal crime lord. Back in his day, he held one-hundred percent control over the Valley, and not only was drugs his preferred poison, but he and Damien Reyez shared a common interest. Prostituting women. Thirteen years ago, there was an explosion at one of Antolini’s underground prostitution rings, with Antolini himself inside at the time of the blast. He was forty-seven years old when he died, andthere was a picture showing what the sick fuck looked like. It wasn’t my father. Just like I suspected, Kinsley was blowing a whole bunch of smoke under my ass.

I mean, come on… Surely the bitch would’veknownthat I’d look into this shit first instead of just taking her word for it.

What a waste of fucking time.

Grabbing my shit, my nerves struck, I got up then turned around, jumping back with a muffled shriek.

“I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Phantom hissed, his dark eyes thinly narrowed. “Come with me. We need to talk.”
