“Ethan, please tell me you didn’t say anything,” I hiss against his ear.

“I’m going to take that mike and shove it up Jake’s ass,” Ethan threatens under his breath.

Unfortunately, Lana isn’t done. She puts her arm around Jake and practically yells into the mike. “Nothing makes me happier than to make this announcement. Ethan and Liz are engaged to be married! Congratulations, you two!”

Three-hundred sets of eyes turn to look at us as a spotlight illuminates us. Ethan and I are both stunned into silence. Jake has a smug look, and Lana is beaming with happiness as they stare at us through the crowded room.

“Ethan, you better smile,” I tell him as I paste a big, fat smile on my face.

Jake takes the mike from Lana and smiles evilly. “Who wants to see the happy couple kiss to seal the deal?”

The crowd goes wild. Everyone starts chanting, “Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss.”

My embarrassment is so thick I feel it all the way to my toes.

“We better kiss, or they aren’t going to stop,” he says apologetically.

“Fine, make it quick,” I say through gritted teeth.

Ethan puts his arm around me, leans into me, then kisses me. And kisses me and kisses me. I hear everyone cheering for him. Then, I feel the pressure on my lower back as he bends me backward, his lips still locked with mine. He deepens the kiss as the sounds of applause and cheers become a soft, distant echo.

He slowly pulls back from the kiss. The corner of his eyes crinkle in amusement as he helps me stand upright again. I’m a bit dazed from the kiss, and it takes me a minute to focus on the happy smiles and clapping surrounding us.

I shake my head in defeat, and a reluctant smile emerges. No use in being mad. After all, I guess this is our special moment.

I poke Ethan in the chest with my index finger. “You better not have planned all of this.”

He holds up his hands in response. “No way. I promise I didn’t know they were going to make an announcement. I made Jake swear he wouldn’t say anything.”

I grab a hold of the lapels of Ethan’s tuxedo jacket and pull him to me. “Hmmm, I guess I believe you. And I’m happy to have the news out there. But you told him our secret, and now you’ll have to make it up to me.”

Ethan lifts his hand and cups my chin. “I’m more than willing to make it up to you. I would do anything for you.”

“I can’t wait for us to bemarried,” I respond.

Ethan looks at me, and I see the love in his eyes. “Right back at you, babe.”

Epilogue

Ethan

There is nothing more wonderful than having the woman I love relaxing in my arms as we stare out into the beautiful open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. We’re on day two of our three-day getaway on the yacht. I convinced Liz to leave Matthew with my parents for a few days because I felt we needed some alone time.

Liz is looking forward to the wedding. However, my mom has been going overboard with the wedding plans. I think it’s beginning to overwhelm Liz, though she hasn’t said anything about it. Every time we turn around, my mom has hired someone, bought something, or needs approval for something. Every once in a while, I have the thought that we should’ve taken Jake’s advice and eloped, but I want Liz to have the wedding of her dreams. And she’s excited about everything, so I can’t take that away from her. I’m sure everything will be gorgeous and amazing. Plus, I can’t wait to see Liz in her wedding gown.

With Liz starting law school soon, that will be an added stress. She’s looking forward to starting and has selected all the required classes she is supposed to take in her first year. I convinced her to attend full time and take a short break from work. Even with my help, she’ll have a lot going on. Taking care of Matthew, working on wedding plans with my mom, and returning to school will take up all her time.

She keeps promising she’ll have plenty of time for me, and I plan to hold her to that. Since she officially moved into my condo, life has been more perfect than I imagined. I fall in love with Liz more and more each day.

I feel Liz stir in my arms. “Are you finally awake?” I tease.

“Hmm?”

“You fell asleep.”

“I did not! I was just resting my eyes.”

“And drooling and snoring.” I kiss the top of her head and snuggle her closer.
