“No,” I said, “ I just hurt my head when I lost my balance, I’m okay.” Looking around me, I saw the other guy on the floor. “Shit… What happened? Did you knock him out?” I must have looked really confused as he gave me the sexiest half-smile I had ever seen, and lifted me from the floor.

“Let’s get you checked out, I think you may have blacked out for a few moments. Come with me.” I swayed a little as I tried to walk and he pulled me to his side to steady me.Wow he feels good, solid, umm…smells good too, he’s so much taller than me, easily over six foot.

“What? Really? What about him?” I asked as we stepped over him, “Don’t worry about him, my guys will escort him out when he wakes up. We need to make sure you are okay,” he said, looking down at me.

“You did knock him out!” I said, looking at him with shock

“Just a little, it didn’t take much really, he was out of it,” Thereis that half-smile thing again, oh shit, that’s cute, mixed with a small amount of stubble covering his chin. I felt dizzy – not sure if it was the alcohol, banging my head or how amazing this man smelt (like warm spices and fresh air rolled into one, it was intoxicating.)

He led me to his office, where he sat me down on a large soft leather sofa. I sat back and rested my head, closing my eyes for a few seconds to take in what had just happened. He was sitting across from me, on the edge of a desk, just looking at me, all manly and…

“Here put this on your head, it will help with the swelling. You hit your head pretty hard, how do you feel?”

“Um.. a bit dizzy, but that might be the alcohol, and the heat, what happened? I didn’t see you come over, and ….I’m sorry…who are you?” I lifted my head to look at him,WOW!This man was all man, he was slim but muscular, wearing a fitted white shirt that showed off his physique, with his tie loosened and top button undone, dark blue suit trousers hugging everything. I could feel myself going dizzy again, so I laid my head back on the sofa to try and compose myself. When I felt him sit next to me, I could smell him, making me want to lean closer, breathe him in.

He moved closer, his hand brushing my face as he put the ice-pack on my head. “How does that feel?”

“Cold,” I replied, taking in a deep breath, and there it was again, that small smile that made my insides tingle.

“Millie? Are you okay? I saw you being taken in here by that man. What’s happened? Get your hands off her!” Charlie shouted as she burst into the room.

“It’s okay,” he said, standing up quickly, “I helped her out of a situation. She hit her head pretty hard, I brought her back here to make sure she was okay.” He was holding his hand up in defence as Charlie continued towards me, he backed away. I didn’t want him to move. It felt so good having him next to me, I felt safe.

“Well…whoever you are, thank you but I can take it from here,” and with that, Charlie helped me stand. I was still a little dizzy, and leant on her for support as we walked from the room.

“It’s Jack by the way…” I heard him say as we left him standing in the office. In the taxi on the way back to the apartment, Charlie called Anne and Clara to tell them what had happened and said she was taking me back to make sure I was okay.

“I’ll be fine if you want to go back out, I won’t mind, it is your last night, we fly back tomorrow evening, I don’t want you to miss out!” I said, still clutching the ice-pack to my head.

“There is no way I am leaving. You could have a concussion, I’m staying with you, and checking on you while you sleep,” she said, smiling at me. “Weirdo,” I said, glad I have someone like Charlie to watch out for me.

Chapter three

Thank You

I woke up the following morning with a massive headache, Charlie sleeping next to me. It always made me chuckle when she acted all motherly. I reached up and found an egg-shaped lump on the back of my head. It was still sore, but in the grand scheme of things, it could have been so much worse if it had not been for him. Jack, he never did tell me what actually happened after I lost my balance. He obviously worked at the club, but we didn’t get much of a chance to talk before Charlie burst into the room and whisked me away. Making a split-second decision, I got up, leaving Charlie to sleep in, and got ready to go find and thank him.

As I walked into town, I decided to head over to the club and see if I could find him there. The club is still a club, day or night, so it’s busy, but with a more chilled feel to it. There are people lounging outside when I walk up to the front and head to the bar.

“Hi, could you tell me if… Jack is about please?” I hesitate before saying his name, hoping I heard it correctly last night. “He was working last night,” I add, just in case they don’t know who I mean. The guy behind the bar smiles at me.

“He’s not working today, but he lives in the villa just next door,” he says, pointing to the left. “Thanks,” I say with a smile and head in its direction. As I turn the corner, I see that it’s not just any villa, it’s massive, and looks more like a whole complex. It’s beautiful, with big white walls, and large glass windows, and there are at least three balconies that I can see from here. Looking up at the building in front of me again, I feel small standing here in my little white sundress as I smooth it down before reaching for the doorbell. I have no idea what I’m going to say, that’s if he will even talk to me. I bet he sees this sort of thing way more than he should. I’m not sure any of those girls would be ringing on his doorbell the day after to saythanks for helping me last night, I’m not really sure why I’m here, but as I am, could you tell me what happened, fill in the little blank bit for me, where when I opened my eyes after losing my balance I saw you, and those breathtaking blue eyes, and the guy who was trying it on with me, was lying on the floor, knocked out.Ha, I suppose I do know what I’m going to say, although I don’t think I’ll mention the bit about his eyes.

The sound of the door opening pulls me from my morning reverie, and I’m looking into those breath taking blue eyes again. It takes me a second to snap out of them, “Hi, um….” I can’t think, what was I going to say? Get your words out!But before I can, he says, “Hi, you’re the girl from last night, Millie right?” His hand goes up and rubs the stubble on his perfectly tanned face as he leans against the door frame. I drink him in, only this time it’s better; his hair is dirty blonde and tied up at the back (not in a weird way, in an action movie, superhero way like Thor, it’s hot). He tucks a stray hair behind his ear and I can feel myself blushing. I feel like I have stopped breathing.Stop staring Millie, I look down quickly to try and gather my thoughts, fuck me he is stunning, a perfectly sculpted man…I can feel my heart pounding, breathe… just breathe.

“Um… yes, um…that’s me, Millie, um….you’re J-Jack?”What is wrong with me?I feel all weird, like I’m star stuck, but I have no idea who he is.Why won’t my words come out like a normal person?

Oh god, he’s just looking at me, and there it is, that small smile, like something amuses him, and it reaches his eyes, they go a deeper blue and my insides tingle at the response. I’m just standing there looking at him, well, staring actually…

“Are you okay?” he asks. I feel sparks of heat from his hands through my dress and the feeling runs over my body like a delicious shiver and all at the lightest touch he places on my side.

“Yes, thanks um…”Get a grip of yourself!“I just wanted to ask you about last night, and say thank you”.

“There is no need to thank me,” he says, “but I’ll tell you what I saw, it’s not much though, come in and have a drink?” he gestures for me to go inside, and his hand touches my arm, I feel the same sparks again, as I walk past him. I can feel his gaze, I turn and catch his eyes on me, checking me out as if I am something brand new but off limits. He snaps out of it as soon as he realises I’m looking back at him. He walks past me, his arm brushing up against me. God he smells good, a mix of aftershave and manliness, if that is even a thing – it’s intoxicating.

“What would you like to drink? I have a huge…selection, name it and it’s yours,” he says with that small smile again, I swallow slightly, not sure what he was insinuating, or even if he was insinuating something.

“Um, I’ll have a gin and tonic please, large.”I need a drink, what is with me? I’m never like this, maybe it’s my head, maybe I hit it harder than I thought.I reach for my head instinctively, and I see him watching me.
