"It's fine."

"It'snotfine."

The elevator skids to a stop, and when it opens Marcus is standing there, face white.

"What happened?" he asks, though I'm not sure if he's addressing me or Luna.

I decide to answer him anyway. "Nothing. Go back to work."

Luna pushes me into my office, "Hey, he's okay. Just needs a minute, can you tell the marketing meeting that he won't be there?"

"I'll be there. Just a few minutes late," I call out, standing in the middle of my office, trying not to flex my hand. It's already starting to ache. But it's going to be the least of my problems.

"Be quiet, Kingsley," she yells at me, before turning back to Marcus. "Maybe clear his schedule for the afternoon. And call PR. He's going to need to talk to them."

"Got it. Page me if you need anything," my assistant says, his voice tight.

"Thanks, Marcky."

He shoots me a worried look over her shoulder and then closes the office door behind him.

"His name is Mar-cus," I say, just to have something to say.

"Shut up," she repeats and opens the drinks fridge and pulls out two bottles of water. "Come over here," she commands, pointing to my desk chair.

I do as she says because I don't have any reason to argue. Yet.

She pushes me into the seat, and then wedges her body between my legs, gently picking up my right hand, turning it over as she inspects it.

"Ow. That hurts," I hiss when she presses the cold bottle of water against it.

"It's going to hurt a lot more soon."

I narrow my eyes, and try to take my hand back but she holds strong.

"Why? What are you going to do to it?"

"Nothing. You've still got adrenaline running through you. Nature's painkiller. That's going to wear off in a bit. Then it's going to hurt like a bitch. Haven't you ever punched someone before?"

"Moonshine, believe it or not, I don't make it a habit to go around slamming my fist into people's faces. That's more of a Kylian and Matthias thing than a Damien and Kingsley thing."

"Well, it's a Luna thing."

"Color me surprised."

She slaps my face gently, her eyes still worried but thawing into affection. "Hey, how about we cut it with the lip for a bit. I'm not the one in trouble right now."

"What makes you think I'm in trouble?"

The expression she gives me is pure"you've got to fucking kidding me"and I almost laugh but I don't want her to slap me again. No matter how much it didn't hurt.

"Me witnessing what just happened makes me think that. Kingsley, you just got into a fist fight with the CEO of Baxter Enterprises. You. The future CEO and regional director."

That definitely doesn't make me laugh. "He's not the CEO. Stop calling him that."

"Well, only you and about ten other people know that. As far as everyone else knows..."

"He touched you, Luna." Just saying it rises my blood pressure. He put his filthy hands on my Moonshine. He deserved what happened and so much more. But my heroics don't get me the reaction from Luna that I expect.
