"I'll let you go. I just had to call you and tell you. I couldn't wait until you got here. I'm gonna call and tell Lexa."

"Okay. I'll be there soon. And I have a slice of cake with your name on it."

She gasps. "He gave you sex and cake. Marry that man."

"Shut up. Love you. Bye."

"Love you."

I take my phone away from my ear and look around my very empty room. The man Charlotte assumed was here is not and will never be. Not with the sun shining through the window anyway. It's a harsh reminder to stomp down each and every emotion rising for him, for a person he can never be for me. We're a Saturday for three months kind of thing. Not a relationship, not even really a fling. We're an arrangement. Nothing more. I can't afford to forget that again.

I get dressed and then order a breakfast that's far too large for me to finish alone, but hey, Law told me to get what I wanted, so why not get it all? Once I'm done, I take one more tour around the room, capturing pictures like I did at The Lincoln. I don'texactly know why. It's more than just wanting to have photos of rooms I'd never be able to afford myself. I want the memories. I just can't explain why. Or maybe I don't want to truly admit it to myself quite yet.

I drive home and shower before going to the hospital, cake in hand. Knocking on the door as I walk in, Charlotte smiles at me with a smile I haven't seen in so long.

"I hear there's a girl in here who's on the transplant list?" I joke.

"That would be me." She beams. "Oh, is that the cake?"

"It is. You have a fork?"

"Hell yeah. Not that I wouldn't eat that shit with my hands if I didn't."

"Animal." I laugh, handing her the container with the cake inside.

She hums at the first taste. "Where the hell did you get this cake from?"

"Ew, chew your food before talking."

"Oh my God, this is freaking amazing. Whoever this guy is, keep him around. At least until you get me like three more slices of this."

I chuckle awkwardly, pretending to busy myself with folding the blanket Charlotte isn't using. From how I see her watching me out the corner of my eye, I can tell she notices. But thankfully, she doesn't say anything.

"Was it Stephanie who came to tell you that you're on the list now?" I ask.

Charlotte rolls her eyes. "You know she wouldn't deign to do it herself. Please. Someone else, much nicer, came to tell me."

I nod. "Figures. Well, we don't have to deal with anyone in that department again."

"Hello, hello," Lexa greets us as she walks in. "Oh, are celebrating the good news with cake?"

"Nope." Charlotte shakes her head. "This is just for me. Sophie brought it from her date last night with her boyfriend."

"He is not my boyfriend," I point out.

"Okay, fuck buddy. Does that sound better?" Charlotte teases.

"Not when my older sister says it."

Charlotte looks to the side for something, and Lexa is quick to shoot me a sly grin and wiggle her eyebrows. Oh, she's dragged each and every detail out of me about what I wore and the hotel room last Sunday, and I'm sure she’s waiting to do the same about last night. Although, like before, I'll keep the details about the sex to myself, much to her dismay.

"How was class?" I ask.

"Long." She sighs as she sits at the end of the bed. "Who the hell ever thought weekend classes were a good idea? But I only have a few months left."

"Then you'll be planning all the best events in town," Charlotte encourages her.

"Yeah, all I need for that is some rich person to introduce me to all their friends. Easy peasy."
