She kept up the mantra as he focused on making her cum on his tongue. Her words turned to moans of pleasure later, when he pushed his cock into her, joining them together.

Later still, the two of them lounged in a lazy haze of satisfaction. Sebastian was propped up against the rattan headboard, with Louisa snuggled into his side, her arm slung over him possessively, like he was truly wanted.

It felt like the two of them were in their own little den, hidden away from the world. He ran his hand through her hair, letting it slip through his fingers, his mind turning to their Conspiracy.

“I think,” he couldn’t stop himself from smiling as he started to plot. “Theo will be the hardest.”

“Theo?” she said, running hand through his chest hair like she was petting a cat.

“Funnily enough, a few years ago I thought Theo would be the first one to be eliminated from the tontine.”

“Theo,” she said again, this time with a thoughtful tone. She had met some of his closer acquaintances, he’d introduced her to Theo only once and the two of them barely had a chance to speak. “He nearly got married? That sounds perfect. If he nearly did it once then he should be ripe to do it again.”

“I’m not sure about ripeness! In fact, he’s definitely underripe. No, the girl dumped him before he had the chance to propose. And he was about to propose, he had a ring bought. Her leaving affected him very deeply, he’s been…different ever since. Not that he ever utters her name. I don’t think he ever got over her.”

“Ah, what about getting him back together with this ex? Why did she dump him?”

“You know, I’m having a premonition of our future. We’re going to be playing with peoples’ lives for the next year.”

“To persuade them to marry the women they love. It’s really very noble of us.”

“True,” Sebastian searched his memory for a few seconds, trying to remember more about Theo’s ex. Theo had never been an extrovert, but he became even quieter after he was dumped, withdrawing into himself. He’d told Sebastian what had happened in very broad strokes and then demanded Sebastian never ask him about it again.

“She was a student, post-grad, and he struggled with how much of her time it was taking.”

Louisa clucked her tongue. “That’s not a great start for romance.”

“No, it wasn’t that simple. Theo was purposefully vague on the details. He can be frustratingly private.”

“You remember her name?”

“No, but it would be easy enough to find out.”

“Then this will be our first couple. Call it a test. If we can’t get the two of them together then we’ll call this whole thing off. Forget about losing the tontine, we’ll get married ourselves straight away.”

“It would be a shame to lose,” he murmured. “Especially as this is our first joint venture as an engaged couple.”

She poked him in the ribs. “I know what you’re doing.”

“Oh? What am I doing?”

“You were fine losing the tontine to marry me, but then you heard my idea and now you want to win the whole thing.”

“Yes,” he said softly, his fingers tracing patterns on her arm. “Does that upset you?”

“Upset me? It's the reason I’m marrying you. We think the same way.”

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head in silent agreement.

Chapter Two

Theo

Theo Gladstone glared out of the window, berating himself for having come out that evening.

The Damflask was a private members club, which meant that far too many people in the room knew him and felt perfectly comfortable coming over and talking to him whenever they felt like it.

In this case, the man who was interrupting his evening was particularly tedious.
