“Out there?”

“Where he lives in the woods,” Siobhan said. She closed her eyes as she sipped on her beer. “Pack. Life. Community.”

“Pack life?” I asked.

The bartender walked away, and Vin continued to drink. Siobhan leaned over me and poked him in the bicep. His very muscular bicep. How built was this guy? He turned.

“We’re over here. Regale us with your stormy words,” she said.

“Stormy words?” he repeated.

She slipped forward and fell out of the stool. She half fell into my lap and the bar top. Her laughter filled the room. I blinked rapidly. It looked like mini rainbows burst from her skin. Like some weird version of a sparkly vampire, except this was rainbows.

Vin hauled her off my lap and sat her back on the stool. Her laughter ripped through the air. “Vin, to the rescue!” she screamed. He shook her roughly.

“You’re in mixed company, Siobhan,” he said.

She poked his chest. “Stormy words. Right there.”

“You’re too drunk. I’m telling Pierre to cut you off,” he said.

Siobhan exaggerated a pout. “Pierre! My friendCloverneeds some more booze. She’s too sober! And Vin.”

Pierre shook his head as he slid more cups in front of Vin and me. “I don’t need more. I still have this one!” I said. The glass was in my hand as I shook it at her. Siobhan just giggled on her stool. Vin was still standing beside Siobhan and me. The heat was rolling off of him.

I looked at him. “You’re really warm.”

He looked at me. His eyes darkened as they moved down my body. “I run hot.”

I snorted. “Lucky duck,” I said.

“Not a duck!” Siobhan yelled. “Oh mi go. Have you met a duck, Vin? I want to meet a duck!”

I pursed my lips as I glanced at Siobhan. “I know I was cold coming in the doors, but I didn’t want to take a coat inside.”

“Women,” Vinn muttered. Siobhan glanced at him as she giggled.

“Clover, drink up. Be merry! I don’t know,” she said. The bartender passed her water. “Piss water!”

Pierre exchanged a glance at Vin. Vin shook his head as he returned to his seat. I glanced back at him.

“So you work here?”

“Yeah, I’m the other bouncer.”

“Must be kinda cool to work at a bar. My job is boring.”

“What do you do?”

“Librarian,” I said.

His eyes narrowed as he looked at me. “Makes sense.”

“What? What are you talking about?” I asked.

Siobhan tapped her nose. “Wolf,” Siobhan said.

I turned. “What?”
