“Stop it,” he growled.
“You’re no fun at all. Now drink, Vin!”
“I’ve been working on it between babysitting your ass, Siobhan.”
Siobhan grabbed me and pulled me into a side hug. “This is my new best friend,” she screamed in my ear.
Vin pulled me out of her arms. “Can you stop harassing the human?” His muscular hands clutched the top of my shoulders. I looked up at his face as my heart raced. Vin was incredibly handsome and my lips parted as I looked up at his face. His eyes traced down my face and down to my chest. Thank the lord this corset was doing the lord’s work with my tits. There was a slight breeze behind me and I turned. Siobhan was gone.
“Where did she go?”
In front of me, a scream erupted, “Here, bitches! Pierre is doing a shit job getting you wasted. Now here’s where I come in!”
“Siobhan!” Vin yelled.
Pierre turned from the other end of the bar. “You can’t be back here.”
“Just say you hired me and boom! Job. Here!” she screamed. She twirled behind the bar. Filling up a couple of glasses with various amounts of booze. At the end, she rubbed her fingers above the glasses. Her fingers seemed to light up slightly and gold flakes fell from her fingers. My mouth fell open as I lookedat Vin. His lips pursed in a tight line as Vin watched. She pushed the glasses in front of us.
“Drink up,” she said. I looked at Vin, and he shrugged. He tossed his back with a gusto. I grabbed my glass. The gold flecks floated at the top. Did I imagine her hand lighting up? Did she have food-safe gold flakes up her sleeve? What was going on tonight?

Chapter 4
Vin
My head hurt. A groan escaped my throat and I rolled over. I opened my eyes and closed them immediately as the sun assaulted them. That made little sense. My room had blackout curtains. The sun shouldn’t be bothering me. I could barely feel my wolf. Half my senses were dulled.Is this what it means to be human? If so, this is bullshit.I shifted my body but felt cool skin against my back. I breathed in deep and realized there was another person in the bed with me. That person smelled like used books and had a slight floral scent. Except there was also the scent ofmeall over this person. The smell of a human was obvious. A groan erupted from this person. There was a flurry of movement behind me as the bed shifted as the person sat up. Maybe they were just as hungover as I was. I remembered I worked at the bar last night. After that, it seems like a blur of green. What did I drink to get me black out drunk?
“Oh god, who are you?” a female wailed.
I opened my eyes as I sat up. Sitting on the edge of the bed, there was a thick woman with tousled hair. Her eyes werewide as she looked at me. Smeared green and black eyeshadow covered her face. Gold flecks covered her cheeks and nose. My eyes drifted down her body. More makeup smears and gold flakes were on her shoulder. A few freckles and gold glittered her clavicles. She clutched the blanket tightly against her chest. She was absolutely beautiful, even looking like a mess. I sucked in a deep breath. She wasn’t my mate. Nothing was triggering me. Although my wolf’s senses were barely there. I don’t think I would know my mate even if she sat beside me right now.
“Who are you?” she asked. Her fear scent rolled off her in waves.
“I’m Vin. I’m assuming we fucked last night.”
She bit her lip. “How do you know that?”
“You smell like sex,” I said.
She pursed her lips. “Maybe I didn’t have sex with you?”
“We’re both naked in, I am assuming, your bed.” No, she smelled likeme. Something in me last night covered her with my scent. Heavily. My head pounded as I tried to remember what happened.
She narrowed her eyes. “Do you remember it?”
“No. I…think I drank too much?” That seemed impossible.
“Same. I don’t remember it.” She bit her lip again as her cheeks grew pink. “I guess that’s a good thing if you suck in bed.”
I chuckled. “I do notsuckin bed. What’s your name?”
“Clover.”
I laughed and winced as pain shot through me. “Were you at the bar last night?”
“Yes. I guess that’s where I got drunk at. You were there?”
