I wretched out of his arms as I stared in horror at my living room. “That’s…shit. My living room is destroyed.” Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him bend over and pick up some clothes off the ground.

“There are some good things workin’ for us. My clothes aren’t in tatters,” he grumbled as he stepped into his jeans.

I turned to him as he was pulling his shirt over his muscular chest. “Good thing? My couch isruined. My table is gone! How are there good things?!”

He walked a few more feet and grabbed a phone that was in the glass. “I think we need to call for backup.”

“Backup for what? What’s going on? How did my couch get ripped up like a Tasmanian devil was in here?” I screeched.

He leaned against the door. A smug smile grew on his face before glancing down at my body. For a moment, they rested on my pelvis and a heat grew in my stomach with his gaze. His eyes flickered to the couch and the table. “How sore are you?”

I gasped. “Excuse me?” Except he was right. Parts of my body were really fucking sore. Like I had fucked the largest cock in the world. If we did have sex, how big was he? I swallowed the nerves bubbling in my stomach. Or was it arousal?

He chuckled. “I’m just saying you’re probably really sore.”

I turned away from him. “Look, I am not having this conversation with you.” I walked into the hallway and took deep breaths.

In the background, I heard the man say, “Hey. I’m in trouble. Yeah, yeah, I need to tell him. It’s…complicated. Can you come help me?”

After a few moments, he called out to me, “Where are we?”

“East Benedict Avenue. 476, apartment 4, second floor,” I answered. His deep voice was repeating the address to his phone. I leaned against the wall. What was going on with my life? I felt a presence behind me and the mark on my shoulder burned a little. I turned to see the man behind me.

“Do you have coffee here? She’s really grumpy, and she said she would only come if there was coffee.”

I pursed my lips and nodded. “Yeah, I definitely have coffee. Who did you call?”

He sighed. “A…friend of mine? It’s complicated. I think she can explain it better,” he said.

“What’s your name?” I asked as I pulled out my coffee bag.

“Vin.”

I dumped the grounds into the coffeemaker. “Nice to meet you, Vin,” I said. I didn’t go to the bar with friends. I don’t know how I will find out what happened last night.

I glanced at him again and he shifted on his feet. “I’ll go clean up in the living room,” he said.

“You know how to fix a couch?”

He glared at me. “No, I can clean up that glass. It’s a hazard and you can’t get hurt.”

I crossed my arms in front of my chest. “Why do you care?” I asked, returning his glare.

He turned around and ignored my question. Fine. Be grumpy. I can be grumpy too.I slammed my cabinet doors as I grabbed a few mugs. I can do the same thing.

Chapter 6

Vin

My finger flipped through my contacts until I landed on Nora. This is going to hurt. I tapped her name and started the call.

“Vin, you better be dead,” she hissed.

“Hey. I’m in trouble.”

“I have barely slept here. Is it important enough to tell the alpha?”
