“Yeah, yeah, I need to tell him. It’s…complicated. Can you come help me?”

Nora uttered curses on the other side of the line. “Fine. Where are you? You worked last night?”

I looked towards the hallway. “Where are we?”

“East Benedict Avenue. 476, apartment 4, second floor,” she said. I repeated her words.

“Whoever you are with, I want coffee. Don’t fuck up anymore,” she hissed as the line went dead. I walked to the hallway and found Clover taking deep breaths. I could feel the mating bond more now. It was faint. Probably because of the alcohol in my system.

“Do you have coffee here? She’s really grumpy, and she said she would only come if there was coffee,” I explained.

She nodded as she turned towards her kitchen. “Yeah, I definitely have coffee. Who did you call?”

I sighed. The alpha’s daughter, but I couldn’t tell her that. Not yet. There was too much I needed to explain. “A…friend of mine? It’s complicated. I think she can explain it better.”

“What’s your name?” She pulled out the coffee bag. The smell of fresh coffee circled around the room.

I inhaled deeply. “Vin.”

“Nice to meet you, Vin.”

She looked at me. The guilt rushed through me. The disaster happened in the living room because of me. Or my wolf form. I looked at her bare feet. “I’ll go clean up in the living room.”

“You know how to fix a couch?” Venom laced in her words.

“No, I can clean up that glass. It’s a hazard and you can’t get hurt.”

“Why do you care?” She glared at me with her hands on her hip.

She doesn’t understand yet. I have to protect her. I grabbed the broom that was stuck by the door and swept up the glass. A clunk hit the floor behind me. There was a small box behind me and a dustbin on it. I looked up at her.

She shrugged as she turned around. “It’s for the glass.”

I grabbed the dustpan and swept the glass off of the floor. The wood looked useless. I stuck it in a pile by the door. By the time it was done, there was a knock at the door. I opened it and Nora walked in. Her long red hair was pulled into a ponytail. She was wearing a hoodie and expensive leggings. I knew she wore expensive leggings. She always said it was because she controlled her shifts well. We all had accidents. I didn’t believe her and then she would tease all the others for being beasts.Even though it didn’t matter. Most of us have charms to prevent our clothes from being destroyed.

Nora paused as her eyes looked at the mess in the living room. “Where is the coffee?” she said as she veered towards the kitchen. Clover was sitting at her table, sipping a mug of coffee. Nora paused and turned back to me. “Oh, it’s girl problems.”

I sighed.

She pursed her lips as she walked to the coffee machine. “What beans are these?”

“The coffee roasters on the edge of town.”

Nora clapped before she grabbed her mug. “Good. That means this is pretty good.” Nora sat at the table as she sprinkled some packets into her mug. “You know, I am very disappointed in you, Vin. I expect this from the Jastic brothers, notyou.”

“I think I got?—”

“We both got very drunk last night.”

Confusion washed over Nora’s features. “How’d you get drunk?”

I shrugged. Nora’s mouth fell open. I had never witnessed Nora speechless.

“I don’t remember anything from last night.” Her eyes flickered to me and she worried at her bottom lip. A spike of fear scent wafted through the air.Ah, fuck, did she think I drugged her?
