Declan is clearly just as confused as I am.

“Patrick didn’t take you?” I ask.

Scarlet shakes her head. “We dragged him here after he was shot. He’s breathing shallow, and he’s too weak to stand. He needs help, Daddy.”

Fuck.

“Maxwell is the traitor,” Bash mutters.

“And he’s still on the loose.” I run a hand through my hair. First things first, we need to get the girls to safety.

“Girls, come out here. We’ll help Patrick,” Declan says.

They crawl out of the cluster of trees and run for us. I tuck my gun away right before Scarlet launches herself at me. She lets out a sob and buries her face against my neck.

“I never thought I’d see you again,” she cries.

I gently pull her head back by her ponytail so I can look her in the eye. “I told you I’d never stop fighting for you, and I never will.”

Grady, Bash, and Kieran go to help Patrick, who’s propped up against a tree. They carefully pull him out and lead him to us.

“I’m so sorry,” he says. “I tried to protect them. I failed. I’m so sorry. Kill me. I deserve it. I’m not worthy of this family.”

I reach out to touch his shoulder.

“You’re more worthy of this family than you realize. Thank you for taking care of our girls,” Declan says.

Patrick stares at him for a long moment before he looks to me. I nod.

“We’re forever in your debt,” I tell him.

“We need to get the fuck off this mountain. Maxwell is still on the loose. He told us you shot him and kidnapped the girls. We thought you were the traitor, so we sent him back to the house to call the doc,” Declan says.

Scarlet and Cali both gasp.

“He’s lying. He came after us and tried to kidnap us. I kicked him so hard in the balls he fell to the ground. Then Cali shot him when he came after us again,” Scarlet explains.

Bash and Grady smile.

“Fucking right, you did. Good job, girls,” Grady says, looking proud as hell.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here and find this motherfucker so we can make him regret the day he was born,” Alessandro says.

“Who are these guys?” Scarlet asks, pointing at the men she’s never met.

“That’s Alessandro and Luciano and some of their men,” I say before nodding toward the other group of men. “And that’s Wolf. Remember the Little girl I told you about, Lucy. That’s her Daddy. And that’s Hawk. The rest of them are their brothers. You can trust them.”

We take the girls by the hand and start leading them out of the dense forest area while they ask a million questions.

Scarlet glances up at Wolf. “Can we meet Lucy?”

“Are you all really Daddies?” Cali questions.

Scarlet holds up her wrist and jingles the beaded art she’s wearing. “Do your Little girls like making bracelets?”

Cali tosses a Cheeto into her mouth and crunches it loudly. “Do they like Cheetos?”

“Do Alessandro and Luciano feed people to the fish?” Scarlet asks.
