She let herself relax. He’d be fine.

He leaned over and pressed a kiss to her forehead.“Stay in bed.I’m going to turn on the baby monitor and give the receiver to Gabriel. If you need anything while I’m gone, just call out for him, and he’ll come check on you.Okay?”

She rolled her lips in and nodded. The last thing she would do would be to bother Gabriel with anything. He seemed nice enough, but he wasn’t her Daddy. She didn’t want to be annoying.

“I mean it, Little girl.We all do our part in taking care of the Littles in this club. And since I go on three-day shifts at the firehouse, you’re going to have to get used to having babysitters.”

Her mouth dropped open.“I don’t need babysitters.”

“You’re my baby, so when I’m on shift, you will have my brothers watching over you.No arguments. My job is to keep you safe, protected, and cared for.I’ll do whatever it takes to take care of my girl.”

The hard set of his expression told her it was pointless to argue.Levi was soft about a lot of things with her, but it seemed when it came to her safety or health, he wouldn’t budge.

“Hurry back?”she asked.

He nodded and pressed a kiss to her lips.“I’ll be home as soon as I can.I’ll miss you, Little one.”

“I’ll miss you too, Daddy.”

Doc

“Who’s available to take a ride with me to go have a chat with Harper’s ex?”

King, Kade, Storm, Bear, Steele, and Atlas all perked up.

“We’re game,” King said darkly.

Storm nodded, his scowl deepening.“Definitely game.I have a few words to say to the guy too.”

Doc grinned and looked at Gabriel.“You mind watching the girls?”

Gabriel smiled.“Not at all.You Little girls want to watch a movie?”

The excitement the girls showed over something so simple made Doc feel warm inside. He wished Harper were well enough to hang out with them, but she needed to rest.Even if she was feeling better, her body was obviously fighting something, or she wouldn’t have had a fever earlier.

“Here’s the baby monitor.Harper’s in bed watching a movie.I told her she needed to rest, but if she needed anything to call out for you.”

“Of course.Want me to check on her in a bit?”Gabriel asked.

“That would be great.I’ll text her and let her know.Call or text me if anything comes up.”

“You got it,” Gabriel answered.

Doc led his brothers out of the clubhouse, and together, they rode through the streets of Shadowridge to the next town over. His body vibrated with rage the entire time. This motherfucker had set her apartment on fire. He’d been in her home while she was asleep. He’d hurt her and tried to kill her. This wasn’t going to end well for him.Not at all. He’d be lucky if he could walk after Doc finished with him.

Forty-five minutes later, they pulled up to a two-story house in a neat little suburb. The home was pristine all the way down to the perfectly painted mailbox out front. It made his rage burn hotter.Everything about this fucker’s house screamed normal.Screamed money.Doc would bet his last dollar that the neighbors had no idea what that fucker was doing to Harper behind closed doors.

They parked down the road, wanting to keep the noise of their bikes from alerting him to their arrival. It would be fun to chase him.A little cat-and-mouse game where Doc scared the piss out of the guy.But what was more important to Doc was getting back to his baby girl and starting their life together.

As they made their way down the sidewalk, the energy that surrounded them was thick with tension.Storm cracked his knuckles while King punched the air a couple of times as though he were getting ready for a big fight.Doc grinned. His brothers barely knew Harper. She meant nothing to them. But because she meant something to him, they considered her family, and the Guardians took care of their family.

When they were halfway up the walkway, they heard a woman scream. All at once, they froze.

“Did you hear that?”Steele asked.

Doc nodded.“Yeah.Was that coming from inside the house?”
