“Don’t worry, Harper. You’re safe here.Hell, I think this is the safest place in the entire town,” he said.

She wasn’t so sure about that. When he took a step back from her car, she eased off the brake and drove forward until she came to a building behind the first one.A row of motorcycles were parked out front and between the two buildings were several picnic tables along with a grill. For a motorcycle club, the place was surprisingly well-maintained.Not that she knew what to expect.

After pulling the cake from her trunk, she slowly approached the door.As she was about to reach for it, it flew open, and Remi bounded outside. And she was dressed from head to toe in hot pink. What in the world was going on?

“Harper! You came!I’m so glad you’re here.My friends are so excited to meet you.Come in, come in.”

Remi ushered her inside before she could ask any questions, and as soon as the door closed behind them, the room went quiet.

At least a dozen men and a few women were in the enormous space that housed a long bar and several pool tables. There were couches and tables and bean bags arranged randomly, but somehow it all worked to make the room feel comfortable.

“Harper?”

She knew that voice. She’d heard it in her dreams every night for the past week.Levi.

He stepped forward, his brows pulled together in confusion. Then he looked to Remi, and suddenly Harper felt a surge of jealousy. Were Levi and Remi a couple?Shit. That wasn’t good.Did Remi know he’d asked her out?

“Oh, you two know each other?”Remi asked him with feigned innocence.

Levi arched an eyebrow.Another man with shoulder-length hair stepped forward, then wrapped his hand protectively around the back of Remi’s neck.

“Remi, what did you do, Little girl? Are you meddling?”the man asked.

Harper looked from the man to Remi to Levi with wide eyes. What the heck was happening? She shifted slightly, trying to keep the cake from slipping from her trembling fingers.Levi must have sensed her nerves because he moved quickly to take the box from her and set it on the bar.

Remi shrugged.“I didn’t do anything.I met Harper and I thought she might enjoy Book Club, so I invited her.”

Levi glared at her.“Book Club wasn’t even a thing until yesterday.”

Wait, what?

“Don’t be silly.I’ve been talking to my friends about starting a book club for months. We’ve had it all planned. You just didn’t know about it until yesterday,” Remi said, waving her hands in the air dismissively.

The long-haired man studied Remi for a long moment before he turned his attention to Harper.

“I’m Kade.Welcome to the Shadowridge MC,” he said, holding his hand out to her.

Harper hesitated but reached out and shook it.Remi slung her arm over her shoulder and led her away from the two men.

“Come on, Harper.Doc is being weird.Let me introduce you to my friends.”

“Who’s Doc?”

Remi giggled.“Oh.Sorry.Doc is Levi.He was a medic in the army, and he’s a firefighter medic here in Shadowridge. We all call him Doc because he’s the club medical person.”

Oh.Huh.She looked over her shoulder for another glimpse of Doc.When she did, she caught his gaze immediately because he was still staring at her with a befuddled expression.

“He’s single, you know,” Remi said.

“Huh?”

She rolled her eyes.“Doc.He’s single.Pretty hot, isn’t he?”

Heat spread over her chest, and she lowered her gaze, trying to avoid giving herself away.Hot was an understatement when it came to Levi.

“Ivy, Carlee, meet Harper. She’s new in town.I invited her to join us for Book Club.”

The two women waved and stood.
