He sighs. “What?”

“What if I don’t agree, Sir? What happens to me?”

He smiles, reminding me of why he’s one of the most feared men in the world.

“If you say no, then you will no longer be my concern.”

“What does that mean?”

His eyebrow lifts. “Read the contract, Ari. Now leave me.”

His dismissal makes me angry, but I’m too scared to say anything. Especially knowing that Max is alive. I thought for sure he was dead, but I guess I was wrong. Reaching for the contract, I grasp it in my hand and flee the room.

Sebastian is waiting outside the door and takes me back to the second floor, chattering the whole time.

“Let me know when you’ve looked over the contract and I’ll take you back to Kieran’s office.” He chuckles. “I know this place is like a maze until you figure out where everything is.”

“You know about the contract?”

“Well, yeah. Why else would you be here?”

I don’t have an answer for that.

“Be sure to read the fine print. Kieran is fair, but the contracts are definitely in favor of him.”

He turns to leave, and I grab his arm.

“Wait. Can you… will you look over it with me? Are you allowed?”

“I can do that.”

I go to the bed, sitting at the foot. He sits next to me, reaching for the papers.

“Okay, let’s see what we’ve got.” He skims over the document, humming to himself. “Would you like to go line by line, or have an overview?”

“What do you think?”

“It’s a pretty standard Dom/sub BDSM contract. If you agree, you’re giving him complete control over all aspects of your life—and I meaneverything—for one year. If you disobey, he’ll punish you.” He grins. “Of course, sometimes punishment is fun, but I’m a brat, so don’t listen to me. If you’re good, then the rewards will be oh-so-good, too.”

All I can do is blink at him. Dom? Sub? Punishment? What in the hell?

Sebastian continues, “Once your training is complete, he’ll find a suitable man for you to marry. Oh, there’s also a clause in here that states your younger sisters will be under his protection, too. Is that something you’re concerned about?”

My eyes water. “Yes.”

“Don’t cry, Ari. Kieran is a man of his word. If he says he’s going to take care of them, he will.”

“Does it say how he’s going to protect them?”

“No, but I’m sure he’ll tell you if you ask.” He pauses. “The only thing is that you aren’t allowed to be in contact with them for the duration of the contract.”

“Why?”

“Likely to make it easier for you.”

“How would being cut off from my family make it easier for me?”

“Ari, Kieran knows what he’s doing.”
