“Normal things. If she ends the marriage, she doesn’t leave with anything except for the clothes on her back.” He thinks. “There was an odd one about her marrying his son, but we removed it, per her request. The old man acted like he didn’t know it was in there.”

I hum. He likely didn’t.

“So she’s set?”

“Financially, yes.” Jetsam pauses. “She seemed rather sad. And when the younger Mr. Greystoke arrived, she seemed scared.”

I don’t answer, rubbing my chin as I think.

“I’d like to draw up a contract while I have the two of you here.”

“Of course, Mr. Van der Zee. What kind of contract?”

“I’d like to make sure Ms. Triton is set for life.” Grabbing a pen, I write a number on a piece of paper and spin it so they can see. “I’d like her to have this amount of money before her wedding to Greystoke. I also need to update my will.”

“Your will, sir?”

“I will need to ensure that my future heirs are taken care of.”

Jetsam and Flotsam exchange a look.

“Is Ms. Ursuland expecting?”

“No. But speaking of Jane, I’d like you to review the paperwork for Unfortunate Souls. Make sure she has no claim to it. I don’t want to hear about a loophole or clause that we didn’t know about. Understand?”

“We can do that.” Flotsam pauses. “Sir, if I may ask, why the sudden change in your assets? Is… is everything okay?”

“It will be.”

My tone ends the conversation, and they stand.

Jetsam says, “We’ll have the paperwork sent over by the end of the day.”

I shake both their hands and watch as they leave. When they’re gone, I lift my phone, dialing Malik Jafar.

“This is Jafar.”

“It’s Van der Zee.”

“Did you get the footage?”

“I did.”

“And?”

“It’s being handled.”

He grunts. “Good.

“Thank you for all of your help with the situation.”

“It’s the least I can do. I’m only sorry I didn’t get there sooner.”

My fist clenches around my phone as I remember the look of terror on Ari’s face as Greystoke cornered her at the hotel.

“The fault lies entirely with me, Jafar.”

There’s a moment of silence and I think I hear an infant cooing in the background.
