“I haven’t been with your mother since our wedding night.”

My eyes widen. “You haven’t?”

“How could I when all I could think of was a bratty woman back in New York? Now, do you want to tell me where this is coming from?”

“I guess it’s just hard to believe. Like, this feels like a fairytale, but I know I’m not going to get my happy ending.”

“Like I said before, you can only live for today. I might not know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but today I get to go on a date with a beautiful woman and do something that I love.”

“See a play?”

“No, see the city at night from the sky.” He points to a dress. “I like that one.”

It’s the gold dress he picked for me that Mother and Grandmama hated.

“Isn’t it a bit too much for daytime?”

“Fuck the rules.”

“You know what? You’re right.”

Undressing, I slip it on. Odin watches with heat in his eyes.

“Just know that I’ll be looking forward to removing that tonight.”

I grin. “Just know I will, too.”

He snorts. “Let’s go, baby girl, before I change my mind.”

Odin is true to his word and takes me on the date of my dreams. Not once do I feel like he’s pumping me for information about anything. Instead, we get to know each other over a glass of wine and dinner after the play is over in a secluded room at the back of one of the fanciest restaurants in the city.

“That play was something else. Wasn’t the lead inHamilton, too?”

I nod. “He played King George. I just love him.”

“He’s talented, that’s for sure.”

“I know. Had me sobbing like a baby.”

Odin says, “I think everyone in the theatre was sobbing.” He reaches across the table, taking my hand. “Next question. Favorite vacation destination?”

“Florida.”

“Florida? Are you fucking with me right now?”

I laugh. “No. I’m a sucker for the amusement parks there.”

“Baby girl, you need to get out more.”

“What’s your favorite vacation destination?”

“Bali.”

“You know, Hans invited me to join your family the next time you go back.”

Something dark flashes in his gaze. “Rest assured, you won’t be going anywhere with Hans.”
